Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

I didn't watch the game, but Raphael Davis is also one of the Big Ten's best perimeter defenders.

Bryn Forbes, MSU (14 ppg, 48% FG on the year): 2.5 ppg, 10% FG%, 0-7 3pt in two games
Melo Trimble, Maryland (14.4 ppg, 45% FG% on the year): 11 points, 28% FG%, 2-6 3pt
Andrew White, Nebraska (17.2 ppg, 50.5% FG% on the year): 9 points, 30% FG%
Bryant McIntosh, Northwestern (14.8 ppg, 42.9% FG on the year): 4 points, 33% FG%, 0-1 3pt
Kendrick Nunn, Illinois (16.7 ppg, 42.1% FG% on the year): 6 points, 15.3% FG%, 0-7 3pt

Clemmons was the primary defender for all of those guys. But yeah, I'm sure those poor performances were just a matter of lucky timing for Iowa and they all just had off nights. Clemmons isn't arguably the best perimeter defender in the Big Ten or anything. No, that wouldn't explain it.

He was on Valentine.

Didn't Monte put up 20 and 9 on Clemmons in Ames?

Yikes... check out ESPN's updated Final Four and Coach of the Year predictions:

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bas...ising-our-preseason-college-hoops-predictions

A couple Iowa predictions for the Final Four and A LOT of Fran McCaffery predictions for coach of the year. Iowa State not listed once. Even our main man Fran Fraschilla picked him for coach of the year.
Dang, where were you guys in the tournament the entire decade before last year?!

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Who the hell is Daymeon Fishback? He's sticking with his Kevin Stallings COY choice, nothing says COY like a 7th place finish in the SEC.

Isn't Monte also really ******* good? The evidence to support Clemmons being an elite defender in the B1G is pretty overwhelming. Morris beat him that night, which says a lot more about Morris than anything else.

As for Davis/Forbes, like I said, I didn't watch the game and didn't know who Davis guarded. Forbes has been torching the conference for most of the season, and Clemmons shut him down both times by denying him the ball and consistently forcing Forbes to make contested shots (which he couldn't do on those nights). Given his other performances this year (he also did most of the work holding Ron Baker from Wichita State to 6 points, but some of that was due to Van Fleet being out), it's pretty hard to call that a coincidence.

You are a really good writer.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Looks like Indiana jumped to #35 in the RPI last night with the win, and Iowa stayed at #7.

Just curious, but am I the only one who has issues with the RPI? Anyone else prefer KenPom, or Sagarins?

Where are you seeing Indiana at #35? KenPom is not intended to rank teams so I never put much weight into it outside of the advanced statistics

Sorry, #34 according to ESPN RPI page.

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rpi

Meh, you say KenPom isn't, but is RPI then? They are both assigning a strength of a team, relative to other teams that is based on results of the games. Either way, I check it daily, just as I do RPI. I think the RPI just has these weird outlier teams too often.

ESPN RPI is not accurate and not used by anyone outside of ESPN.

RPI is meant to rank teams, KenPom is not.

You are splitting hairs. ESPN RPI updates in the morning. As you can see form my posting I am looking at things at 5 am most the time, so I check it and it is always within a spot or two of the real RPI.

Man you are basically just an argumentative ***** though. Maybe I'll start the RCI (Rating Cyfan index) and rank you the #1 dousher.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

I think if you look at the combination of RPI, KenPom, Sagarin and the polls, you get a relatively decent idea of the strength of a team. Any one element can be flawed either through the formula or through bias.

This is what I think as well. The #1 poster on my RCI poll though disagrees.
