Seemingly never ending Iowa MBB thread (still going.....)

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

WVU opened as a 3.5 dog at KU tonight, and you think ISU would be a 4-5 point dog on a neutral court?

The distance between Iowa and ISU is greater than wvu and KU.

And that's not a knock. Wvu is playing live the best team in the conference, and KU had been struggling (by their standards).

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

I never said that. I just know that we would be a 4-5 dog to Iowa in the NCAA tournament right now despite having the head to head win in the bank.

Well, if you're in to gambling then you know spreads are a reflection of public perception to get equal action on both sides. It's not a true handicapping of the game. The public is pretty stupid, especially when hawk fans are involved.

I don't disagree with that. Iowa will be big 10 season champs, have maybe 6 losses by tournament time, and a 1 or 2 seed. Iowa St will hopefully maybe be a 3-6 seed.

But who you putting your money on if both teams are playing at their best?

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Yeah, according to Sagarin you'd be a 4 point dog to Iowa on a neutral court.

Fair enough...I have a feeling that line would get bet down tho. It took Uthoff having the shooting night of his life in the first half to make that a 1 point loss for Iowa. I think the second half is more indicative of what the game would be if played again, but thats just my opinion.

Can you show me the section on Ken Pomeroys website were his formula incorporates betting tendencies?

I missed where you specified that's what Kenpom had. I'll go back and check your post again. I'm sure it's there somewhere.

Anyone who pays even slight attention to college hoops should know that Vegas basically uses Pomeroy and Sagarin to set initial lines.

This isn't true. If it was the sharps would be making a lot more money than they are.

I agree that they are similar but Vegas was setting lines before KenPom and they would be foolish to trust someone else with creating their lines. They have their own algorithms.

I'm not serious in this particular case, but they absolutely DO adjust lines for certain teams based on reputation alone.

Nobody said so much better. Just better.

Everyone half-azz talented on Iowa's schedule has had injuries this season--always when Iowa plays them.....sans Maryland.....wha-la! Iowa lost to Maryland

Iowa has been very fortunate with their health this season. Jok or Uthoff go down they'll be blown out LOL

Im sure Oklahoma would just keep humming along if Buddy got hurt. I'm sure ISU wouldn't miss a beat if Morris or Niang went down. What a stupid argument.

Yes. Injuries are always full of laughs.

So you agree with me then.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Iowa's a good team and playing well. Not sure why we are speculating on injuries. B1G is soft, but I think they will be a hard out this year.

I wish there was a way to facetiously 'like' posts

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Who locked down Forbes tonight?

I didn't watch the game, but Raphael Davis is also one of the Big Ten's best perimeter defenders.

Bryn Forbes, MSU (14 ppg, 48% FG on the year): 2.5 ppg, 10% FG%, 0-7 3pt in two games
Melo Trimble, Maryland (14.4 ppg, 45% FG% on the year): 11 points, 28% FG%, 2-6 3pt
Andrew White, Nebraska (17.2 ppg, 50.5% FG% on the year): 9 points, 30% FG%
Bryant McIntosh, Northwestern (14.8 ppg, 42.9% FG on the year): 4 points, 33% FG%, 0-1 3pt
Kendrick Nunn, Illinois (16.7 ppg, 42.1% FG% on the year): 6 points, 15.3% FG%, 0-7 3pt

Clemmons was the primary defender for all of those guys. But yeah, I'm sure those poor performances were just a matter of lucky timing for Iowa and they all just had off nights. Clemmons isn't arguably the best perimeter defender in the Big Ten or anything. No, that wouldn't explain it.
