Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Precisely; MadFran has taken a bunch of C+ / B- Dorks and has them playing excellent as a team. They are consistent and the only losses since December is road games to us and Mary. Hate to say it, but this is an excellent team playing their best team ball right now.

Iowa reminds me an awful lot of Wisconsin last year.

Uthoff = Kaminsky
Jok = Dekker
Dingleberry = Hayes
Clemmons = Gasser
Gesell = Koenig

Now I'm not trying to say each individual is a perfect match as being equal, but rather the Wisconsin team was always greater than the sum of it's talents, and Iowa is doing that this year as well.

Wisconsin was MUCH more talented last year than Iowa this year. Kaminsky was a top 10 pick, Dekker was top 20 and Hayes is an NBA guy.

They had much greater talent than Iowa, not a lot of college teams have three first round picks on them like that Wisconsin team did, especially not two upperclassmen first round picks.

I wouldn't say much more, but they were more talented and they had already been to the final four before. This is uncharted territory for these hawks. However, college bball as a whole was more talented last year too. Going to be a fun March. Everything is up for grabs.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

I'll take that from a Center that plays good post defense, is unselfish with the ball and a good passer and is a good rebounder. He also shoots a high percentage from the floor and FT line. That is my definition of a good center.

Like I said, very low expectations. He does one thing above an average level, average in most areas, and unbelievably bad in a few. According to you he's a good defender yet he's a 7 footer who manages to only block one shot every 3 games. A "good" passer who averages less than an assist a game.

Wisconsin was MUCH more talented, they had two seniors who were top 18 draft picks and Nigel Hayes. Iowa has Uthoff. Wisconsin was clearly much more talented across the board

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Gesell - C
Clemmons - B-
Jok - B+
Uthoff - A
Woodbury - B- (Notice a big drop off when he goes out of the game lately)
Bench - D+

Morris - B+ (Has A talent, but seems to get lackadaisical)
Thomas - B-
Nader - D
Niang - A
McKay - C (Has B+ potential)
Bench - D-

The NCAA all-time leader in A/TO ratio gets "lackadaisical".

He can't jump. But he is still a good post defender. I guess in your world blocked shots are all that count to be a good defender.

I specifically said I wasn't trying to compare individual players. They just remind me of Wisconsin is all, and I kind of listed each player and who they compared to in importance to each team.

Plus NBA draft position doesn't mean anything as to what a guy means to their team. Otherwise you would have to say that Dekker >> Kane, Ejim, and Niang. This simply isn't the case on the college level. Those 3 were all greater than Dekker at the college gaems.

Well he did get dominated by a "C" player like Jameel McKay

Dekker is riding the bench in the pros. He is a project like mcDermott.

One game. Kudos to Woodbury for playing his hardest and shame on McKay for dogging it. McKay has a much higher upside.

So now he's a good defender who can't block shots or jump? Are you reading these before you post? How good of a defender could he possibly be? He's ok at standing there and holding his hands up, he has terrible feet, and positioning is average at best. (that's why he doesn't block shots)

If he was 6'9" he'd be playing intermurals.

Well he anchors the 11th ranked defense in the country, so probably pretty good.

Did Rodman or Bird block a lot of shots? They were considered elite defenders. And before you go full ****** and say that I'm comparing Woodbury to them, slow down and read. Those guys were elite defenders on the grandest stages. Woodbury is a good defender in college bball. Blocked shots are only part of the equation. Woodbury is a good interior defender in college bball.

Larry Bird was absolutely not an elite defender. That's a terrible argument.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Predicting the rest of Iowa's schedule...

@ Rutgers - W
Purdue - L
@ Maryland - L
Northwestern - W
Penn State - W
@ Illinois - L
@ Indiana - L
Minnesota - W
@ Penn State - W
Wisconsin - W
Augustana (S.D.) - L
@ Ohio State - W
Indiana - L
@ Michigan - L

Final record: 21-9 (12-6 conference), #7 seed
Good call

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Really like Lunardi's bracket right now for Iowa State. He has ISU on a 4-seed with USC as the 5, in the Midwest winner. The 1 is Iowa. Would set up an Iowa State-Iowa Sweet 16 game in Chicago. Meanwhile Gonzaga is on the 8-seed with Iowa.

Still hope ISU can move up to a 3 seed, but if we end up as a 4/5, having Iowa as the 1 would be ideal.
