Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Just wanted to thank everyone for their part in the last few pages of this thread. Has been some good stuff.

Some highlights:
1) Iowa would struggle to beat Purdue now
2) Any Top 25 team could beat Rutgers with only 4 players. I look forward to the imminent discussion of "would Alabama beat the Browns?" in a few weeks.
3) CyTwins is a hawk troll
4) Iowa is a "very bad" team without Uthoff

Good stuff guys. 4/5 stars, would read again.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

You don't live in eastern Iowa

and since ISU was in the Top-5 in November to present the CR gazette continues with negative ISU headlines in their print editions after isu MBB wins... Some next to idiot fluff pieces on the Hawkeyes.....It's hilarious

even super bowl Sunday. -- a random head story on Viking Chad Greenway. Lol. No relevance to today's game . Nothing on Carolina's AJ Klein

Complaining about a Cedar Rapids paper's ISU coverage is pretty silly. The Gazette is not a statewide paper like the Register; they really shouldn't cover ISU at all, anyway.

Yes, because none of their subscribers are interested in the Cyclones. By your rules they shouldn't have anything about the Superbowl today either. Tell me, where is the magic circle drawn? Just far enough that it encompasses Iowa City, or maybe Waterloo/Cedar Falls?

For a regional paper like the Gazette? Absolutely. It's an eastern Iowa paper that already has two D-1 schools to cover in its area. I also don't much care to see Iowa outlets covering events that have nothing to do with their coverage areas. Scott Reister covered the freaking Super Bowl for KCCI. What possible reason could there have been to justify that, other than that it would be cool to cover the Super Bowl?

LOL at the past few pages of this thread.

Lol...OK. I guess you have a hard time understanding business and giving customers what they want. I doubt very much a newspaper is going to cover something their subscribers aren't interested in. Your comment is dumb and you should probably just own it and move on, but I see that's not going to happen.

Who is the second D-1 school?

If ISU wasn't covered by the Gazette, their subscriptions/web hits wouldn't suffer much at all. It'd still be the best print source for news in the area; the Register isn't going to talk a whole lot about Cedar Rapids news. If the Register stopped covering Iowa or ISU, it would have a huge impact because there are plenty of people outside the DSM area who only get the Register for its sports coverage.

Besides, everybody here does nothing but get ****** off about the Gazette's ISU coverage. They freelance 99% of it because they can't afford to dedicate actual resources to it. It's token coverage in an attempt to satisfy the ISU fans who live in eastern Iowa. Expecting more than that from them is silly. Iowa is the team that more people care about in the Gazette's coverage area, and it's not even close. Of course Iowa dominates the sports section there.

UNI is D-I. Or are you telling me Iowa isn't the only in-state team to lose to a D-II school this year?

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Where are all the people pumping their chests about OK now? They got handled by a poor KSU team. No way are they a lock #1 seed.

Poor? By the hawkeye's KenPom god, they'd be better than about half of the Big 10.

That's all well and good. I'm not ******** about Iowa dominating the coverage and ISU getting token coverage. I am strictly responding to you assertion that they should completely ignore a major D1 program that is 100 miles from the city, which is ******* stupid.

They basically do that already. The only reason for covering ISU is to slightly increase revenue. But what ISU athletics does is rarely going to be newsworthy for the Gazette's readership base, the same way I wouldn't expect readers of the Ames Tribune to give two ****s about what Iowa is doing.

Good point and OU is exactly where they should be and will most likely be an overall #1. These sites know exactly what they are talking about as evident by their placement of Iowa.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

I think it's cringe worthy that alleged Iowa St fans come into the in-state board, (which is an add-in) and rail on other Iowa St fans for their trolling and hatred of hoks.

Why do you feel the need to defend Iowa? What's the point?

If you don't like it, GTFO. You don't have to be here. No matter how much you try to defend Iowa, there's still gunna be plenty of posters that hate them, and will continue to downgrade their performance.

I have never defended Iowa. I can't say I hate Iowa because they are completely irrelevant to me.
