Iowa/MSU

It's OK to give other teams credit. This may be one of your worst arguments. They beat Louisville, Kansas, providence and Florida.

No kidding, MSU has beaten everyone, but Iowa. I can tell you that I never ever want to have to go up against MSU in the NCAA tournament that is for sure, but Iowa I wouldn't mind facing.

We beat Iowa, I could care less if they go undefeated from here on out, only helps us at this point.

Even though MSU is overrated, you have to give credit when credit is due. Hawks looking good (right now).

The Hawks looked really impressive again tonight.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I hope they keep winning. They have a bunch of Iowa kids (Jok, Woodbury, Uthoff, Gesell is practically one), and I admire their toughness and offensive skill. They'll be a tough out in the Tourney.

As my dad would always say after a game, "keep your dobbers up." We'll start winning again. There's two really good teams in this state. Stay positive my fellow CFers.

What's a "dobber"?

Iowa plays like a team. We should try it.

Iowa is playing well. Doesn't mean we aren't playing like a team, but go ahead and judge and criticize while they're struggling/down. Some of the 3's Jok and Uthoff hit were NBA threes. MichSt couldn't hit the ocean and sure miss a good, solid/scoring point guard like they usually have. Once we lost to Baylor, and Iowa had already beat MichSt/Purdue, I told my friend that due to the lack of good teams in the bottom half of the Big10, Iowa would be ranked ahead of us eventually. Never thought it would be this quick. Always thought Fran could coach, despite his results against us. Sure didn't realize it when the Marble as a senior team basically faltered. But he's got them clicking on all cylinders and Uthoff is an NBAer.

One thing stood out to me like crazy watching Iowa play tonight.... they are WAY, WAY better defensively than we are.

MSU was struggling to get any open look at all. Whereas Texas was getting uncontested layups on us all night long. The difference in defensive intensity between Iowa and us is DRASTIC. Our guys aren't nearly as long as Iowa's players are, but they're still capable of playing so much better defensively, but just choose not to.

But lack of depth is also killing us. We can't afford anyone on our team to get into foul trouble. That kills your ability to play good tough defense. In addition, our guys need to conserve energy as well with the minutes they have to log, so that destroys your defensive intensity as well. I don't care what anyone says, lack of depth is a big problem for this team.

MSU also has wins over Louisville and Providence. But by all means, continue the narrative that Sparty has played no one but KU in the non-conference.

Iowa is on a good streak. It won't last forever. The more Iowa wins, the more it helps ISU.

Yes, Gesell out the whole half with foul trouble and they didn't miss a beat. I wouldn't say their defense is DRASTICALLY better, but of course its better. Sorry, but parts of the game I watched, MichSt had a lot of open 3's and couldn't hit a lick. Iowa can pressure the perimeter cuz they've always got two guys (Uthoff and Woodbury) that either can block or alter the shot or cause another pass.

Don't come here and expect a rational, unbiased opinion of Iowa. It won't work out well for anyone if that's what you expect to get.

Care to make a wager???

I think he's right. They've already won 3 out of 3 vs. teams that were 'supposed' to be better than them (2 on the road), and Maryland seems fragile at times (lost to Michigan and almost to lowly Penn State at home). Would also bet they win it now (unless Uthoff gets injured, that is).

really? I saw MSU miss a zillion wide open 3 point shots.... Not sure how much of the game you watched...not saying Iowa isn't better defensively than us as most are, but MSU played like crap and missed a ton of open shots...

Yeah they are legit. And they're moving up in the rankings not because they are beating bottom half big 10 teams, but genuine top teams.

Per Kenpom, Iowa is 11th in defensive efficiency and Iowa State is 113th. Plus, Iowa's cumulative schedule (all opponents combined) is ranked tenth in offensive efficiency. I think it's safe to say Iowa's defense is much, much better than Iowa State's.

Constant theme this year. All of Iowa's good opponents magically have terrible nights against the hawks (ISU, Marquette. Michigan State x2, WSU), whereas ISU's opponents all magically have their best offensive hand if the season.

It's all about luck.

I keep waiting for their season to collapse. But that's not happening. They just keep soaring. Never going to cheer for them, but it's quite clear that they are a damn good team.
