New Commit: JUCO CB Lonnie Johnson

On another note...I'm wondering why no hawk trolls are badmouthing our recruits...hmmm...seems oddly quiet from them on that front these days.[/QUOTE]

Does ISUcc FB or MBB have limits or concerns with how many non-qualifiers they can sign? Don't they already have have 10 or 11 jucos returning from the Rhoads era? Just curious.

Just curious as I have do not have an "insider", who are your hearing won't be back? Why? Where are they likely to go?

No one has been outed.....and wouldn't divulge it if I knew. IMO, it could be guys who might have graduated early, it could be guys who have battled injuries and still battle them still. It could be young guys who redshirted this last year and now could go Juco and move there and play for a season and have 3 years to play 3. It could be guys who wish to move down to FCS and not sit out at all.

The only thing I really know is that we have offered a lot of guys and would be full at this point if no one was leaving. So I would look at the numbers and the positions we are offering to get an idea of who might be leaving.

How many of the JUCOs signed previously and in this class were non-qualifiers?

I am hoping that our signing a number of JUCO DB's indicates we are going to change our approach and use press coverage. Where big DB's can jam guys at the line and throw off the timing of spread offenses.

Goodness I hope so. Wally did some good things but if I see another 10 yard cushion on 3rd and short I'm gonna lose it

Lonnie Johnson looks like he plays Press coverage. D'Andre Payne and Thadd Daniels play physical as well. Those are the Defensive Backfield Juco's we have gotten. We would seem to be looking at playing tighter coverage and more physical.

I'm reasonably sure that at least one of them winds up playing safety. There's a gaping hole next to KCM.

Two in this class so far I believe. My question to him in return is...does that really matter? I know several people, myself included, that went the JUCO route for at least the first year. I fully admit that I screwed around in HS. I still remember my mother when grades came out..."you can get a 24 on the ACT, but cant get a B in Chemistry?"

I like that hawk fans automatically dismiss the player as beneath them if they went the JUCO route, but in a lot of cases it makes them not only a better player and academic, but a better person as well.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Isu recruiting class when all is said and done will be ranked right there with mighty Iowa's or maybe even higher....which would be incredibly impressive. What I sense from Hawk media and fans is they are just now realizing that CPR is gone and so might be the days of dead last recruiting classes.

Ya I dont particilarly care whether they were qualifiers or not, just curious what the breakdown was of qualifiers vs non-qualifiers. I didn't imagine it would be very many nons.

Most of that fan base has been too busy collecting cans and getting payday loans for tickets to ROSE BOWL.

Will he be joining the team for spring semester?

Really love the way CMC is rebuilding dbs and ol.

Can not give you the exact number, but can confidently state, given my experience with juco programs, that the vast majority of juco players that are talented enough to move on to a D1 Power school, were non-qualifiers. That would include 3star and above rated players out of high school. Clearly the ones who move on after only one juco season are qualifiers because if not, they can't. I can also tell you the HC of a higly ranked juco FB program, has told me it is tougher to place his non-qualifiers at B10 schools, than B12 schools.

Per Scout today, the B10 has 244 signees/commits, 12 of which are juco (ave .857 per team). The B12 has 172 signees/commits, 31 of which are juco (ave 3.1 per team). The B12 so far leads all Power-5 conferences in incoming jucos, and its the smallest conference with only 10 teams. The B12 is behind only the MWC and Conf USU in juco concentrations. ISU currently leads the B12 with 6, and only has 16 recruits so far. ISU also has a boatload of jucos returning following Rhoads' last 2 recruiting classes. Iowa has 24 recruits, zero (0) of which are juco.

You can draw your own general conclusions as to whether or not these juco statistics reflect in any way upon which teams/conferences have higher academic standards/models for student athletes. And I'm not aware of any sources which compile statistics for schools that sign dismissed transfers like Hoiberg did. For a broader view of overall academic ratings of Universities, go to U.S News University Academic Ratings. I'll save some of you the effort of a reply - 'F*ck Iowa and F*ck gnarlyboy". Enjoy the bowl season.

Ah, yes. The 'right way'. What else left to do but nod your head, roll your eyes and move along.

We are ISU. At this point in time and given the history of our program we are the Ellis Island of recruiting. Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to kick the *** of other programs who wallow in their own prejudices born of undeserved sense of entitlement.

Taking on a JUCO has nothing to do with academic standards of a conference. Any kid that graduates with an AA degree will qualify for any of those schools. One of our JUCOs had a 32 on their ACT...
