OU would roll the hawkeyes

Which makes it a better win. AND... the committee should add in the fact that Minnesota had numerous starters out injured too. Both starting DT's, both safeties, and starting RB off the top of my head.

Barry Alvarez loves those corn-fed 2nd stringers from Minny.

An accomplishment by a different team a year ago is the reason for their ranking this year. Great argument?

It's the reason they started the season #1 and they haven't lost so common sense says they would remain ranked at or near the top.

Silliness......Sagarin is only allowed to be used when it is for defending Iowa's positioning, not for anyone else.

Sagarin was the choice the past few years for ISU fans when discussing SOS. Did it change this year? We'll do our best to keep up with the moving goalposts but you have to help out a little.

No it didn't. Hawk fans are the ones moving the goalposts on this one

I've never agreed with this line of thinking. The 2014-2015 Buckeyes are done and gone forever. The 2015-2016 Buckeyes are a different team, they haven't won any titles (yet), and I don't think they should have any banked credit in this year's ranking for what last year's team did. Makes no sense. They definitely deserve a high ranking, and did deserve the #1 preseason spot, not because of what last year's team did but because of everything they brought back. If you're going to argue that Ohio St. won the title last year and therefore deserves to continue in that #1 spot until they lose, why draw the line at #1? Why shouldn't the #2, #3, #4, #5, etc., teams from last year's final ranking continue to hold those spots in this season's rankings until they lose?

You just said they don't deserve the number one ranking because of last year, then you said they deserve it because of what they brought back from last year....

from a team that won the NC.

so which is it? Judge last year and the players who played or not? Can't have it both ways.

I'm not having it both ways. I'm saying that it makes no sense to argue Ohio St. deserves the #1 ranking this season until they lose because they won the national title last season. I'm saying that it makes plenty of sense to argue that Ohio St. deserved the #1 ranking this season because of how loaded they are with talent coming back from last year's team. If you can't see the distinction, I can't help you. If you're going to say that just because a team won the national title they deserve to keep the top spot in the following year's rankings until they lose, I'll ask what if that team loses 90% of its talent from that previous year and is left with nothing but unproven and inexperienced guys? What if OSU lost all those QBs and Bosa and its entire O-line and LBs and so on? Would they deserve the #1 ranking while they escape a bunch of easy OOC games in the first four weeks? I don't think so.

Why are ISU fans giving opinions on college football rankings anyhow?

I mean, this is an ISU board and all. And ISU has a football team that's played the No 4, 6, 7, 10 and 11th ranked teams. Also played another team that was top in votes received is week but not ranked. So, yeah, I think ISU fans know a little something about ranked teams.

They both squeaked by bad football teams by less than a TD; the difference is Iowa did it at home and OSU did it on the road.

Doesn't really matter because Iowa will be #5 again this week. But OU and OSU could jump them with wins next weekend though.

Key difference is Iowa never trailed to said bad team their game, and led the game since 4 min remaining in the 1st quarter. They controlled the game.

OSU didn't take the lead until 5 min remaining in the game against the other bad team.

Aren't Hawk fans the one that say only the final score matters when discussing the Iowa/ISU game? Now we talk about what happened during the game? I'm confused

Losing to good teams doesn't mean you understand what it takes to be a good team. It means you know how to lose.

Only on odd numbered years, 2014's score does not matter, that was a Superbowl year.

Wait, with this hypothetical gotcha game, does the hypocrisy also work for any and all cyclone fans that wanted to broader context of the game taken into account? You're a pretty smart guy, just want to make sure you realize this goes both ways.

I don't think you have to just look at the final score. I think it's OK to acknowledge ISU was tied with Iowa late in the game. I also think it's OK to acknowledge Iowa was in the lead the entire game at home vs the #72 in the country while Okie State had to rally to beat the #62 team in the country on the road.
