Dear America - Iowa Doesn't Care What You Think

Some media rube once wrote "Historic" Kinnick stadium, and it stuck. Iowo fans and their media pat themselves on the back more than any college program......

like claiming Tom Brokaw an esteemed "alum' when he actually was a drunk in IC and crashed and burned after his frosh year

and George Wine (RIP)--at the time the old retired senile coot and ex-Iowa sports Info director who SOMEHOW was allowed a vote in the BCS poll despite hardly watching football, and was in a retirement facility, punished Okie St in Dec 2011 because nobody losing to Iowa State-- deserves anything

"Oklahoma State was ranked sixth by three Harris voters: former Iowa sports information director George Wine, former Hawaii coach Bob Wagner, and former Notre Dame wide receiver Derrick Mayes. Wine, 80, had one of the more unusual ballots, selecting Houston -- fresh off a 49-28 loss to Southern Miss -- at No. 5 and one spot ahead of Oklahoma State."

If you have to tell people it's historic, it's not historic. Someone should tell Dolphin.

It seems after every win the Iowa fans get more and more ****** off about what people are saying about and how they are treating their team.

Wait I'm confused. I thought Iowa fans don't care what anyone thinks about their team. So why keep sending info?

Lolololololol.

Iowa fans pre-season: Kirk sucks, if he doesn't win at least 8 games with that terrible schedule he needs to go

Iowa fans now: EVERYONE LOOK HOW GOOD OUR SCHEDULE IS, PLEASE NOTICE US KIRK IS A LEGEND ISU SUCKS WE WOULD BEAT TCU

Truth: KF did poorly with a crap schedule last year and is doing great with a crap schedule this year.

To defend Iowa, they do pretty decent with the 4 games they can control. It's not their fault the B1G tanked their schedule by adding poor football programs and setting it up so they play the good teams once every 4 or 5 years.

With the rational Iowa fans I talk to, I always say that exact thing. You've won the games. Nobody can take that away from you. But just don't tell me the schedule that a lot of Iowa fans thought a very average Iowa team should win at least eight games against is somehow better now. Nothing has changed except the games they thought would be tough (Nebraska/Northwestern) turned out to be a lot easier than expected.

No Iowa fan is claiming that the schedule as a whole is difficult. It isn't. Iowa fans are annoyed because they have played a tougher schedule to date than many of the other undefeated teams, but none of those teams get crapped on for their schedules like Iowa does. No one brings up the fact that Iowa has two road wins over 6-win teams, just that they play a bunch of scrubs the last four games of the year.

That's the thing about SOS and schedules, you know what is on the rest of that schedule so why would you ignore it?

Maybe because those games haven't happened yet? You have no idea what teams will look like when the games are actually played. Iowa State fans are going to have a meltdown when Iowa is ranked in the Top 5 when the CFP committee rankings come out.

You think they're going to be No. 5? No way are they in the top 4 to begin with. I think you might have just a slightly inflated view of your team's national perception.

I couldn't give 2 ***** where Iowa is ranked. If Iowa wins out the rest of the regular season, they will be the worst undefeated team in the history of college football. It will be really funny to see Iowa get their ***** handed to them when they finally have to play a team with a pulse in the Big Ten Championship . Congrats on being undefeated with the easiest schedule of any Power 5 team.

1. "Worst undefeated team in the history of college football" = massive hyperbole and utterly inaccurate
2. "It will be funny to see Iowa get their ***** handed to them when they finally have to play a team with a pulse in the Big Ten Championship" = if Iowa does make the Big Ten Championship game it will be a close game so you might as well accept that now so you don't get outraged later.
3. "...easiest schedule of any power 5 team" = statistically incorrect, keep trumpeting the ignorance though.

I am 100% aware of Iowa's national perception. I think that perception is actually a misperception, and believe the committee will agree. The committee is supposed to rank teams based off what they have done to date. Can you name me five teams who have a better resume right now than Iowa?

If this happens, the true humor will be in the Hawk fans who complain when they get dropped a spot or two by the committee every week even after they win. So I'll take it.

Fair enough. I actually think this is what happens. Iowa opens up rated highly, but as other teams rack up quality wins Iowa begins to fall. Many Iowa fans will throw a hissy fit, despite the fact that the drop in rankings will be warranted. As other the other top rated teams begin to knock each other off (Stanford/Notre Dame, TCU/Baylor, Ohio St/Mich St, etc), Iowa will rise back up. Of course, this depends on Iowa finishing the regular season 12-0.

We'll see on that second part. Let's say Iowa is ahead of TCU in this first poll. TCU would pass them after beating Oklahoma State. Then TCU beats Oklahoma. Even if Baylor beats TCU, why would the committee punish them for that? An Iowa win over Purdue or Nebraska is not going to be impressive enough to get them ahead of some of these teams that lose their marquee game because they will have much stronger resumes otherwise (assuming they win those games)

No one seems to think Iowa's resume so far is impressive outside of Iowa fans so relying on that to carry you to a top ranking is probably going to be a letdown. And I'm not talking about Sagarin rankings and SOS numbers to date, I'm talking about what people have actually said about Iowa in poll votes and in the media (see College GameDay). Iowa fans are on an island with, it appears, Chris Hassel and B1G Network anchors.
