They make it so easy...

Maybe sometimes, but what I saw from an aerial view many times was guys running wide open 20 yards down field between the hashes with nobody close, and Rudock either not throwing it to them, or throwing it and missing badly.

I don't remember Beathard completing a lot of these passes either

Do I think it's odd an entire fan base blamed the starting QB for losses and the backup QB is the most popular man on campus? No, I think that's very common as Jerome Tiller was supposedly the next Vince Young for a couple years on here and in the stands

I've said it before and will say it again, on this topic, you're acting like that uncle who never went to college but when you see him at the family reunion still thinks he knows more about your career field than you do.

:biglaugh:We had seats by some guy that year who was always yelling for Tiller by the second offensive series.

I just hold out hope that maybe KF wasn't totally clueless on his qbs last year and the Beatnik is going be an interception machine.

How so? I watched every Iowa game that wasn't kicking off at the same time as ISU last year. I never thought Beathard looked good. The two games he got the most snaps (Purdue and bowl game) he was terrible

I guess I just find it kind of funny Hawk fans criticize Rudock so much when every factual thing and statistic says he was better than Beathard last year but then again Hawkeye fans have this unique "eye test".

Beathard aired the ball out all over the field, Rudock checked down every time but yet Rudock had a higher yards per attempt. Doesn't add up to me.

I definitely see what you are saying. As I said, I dont think Rudock gets quite enough credit. However, he also had the benefit of being a year old, and playing many, many more snaps than Beathard did. And as far as the "eyeball test" goes, you can go back and watch the second half of the Pitt game. Beathards decision to push the ball on certain downs and distances is what absolutely won us that game. He was making throws into windows that Jake would have never made. High risk, high reward throws. Also, I have been watching a lot of last years games from my DVR, and while I know they are just commentators, every one of them, when they were going through the pre game line ups, alluded to Jake needing to push the ball more, and be aggressive. So it isnt just Iowa fans that are seeing this. And we are at a point were we need a decision maker like that. Is he going to throw more pics? Absolutely. However, Id take that in exchange for more aggressive play that pushes the ball, keeps the O on the field, and our D off of it.

Also, if you listen to the pre season interviews from a lot of the offensive players, many of them allude to this. I understand that you havnt, as you being an ISU, which is obviously fine, but a lot of the receivers and TEs made mention to Beathards willingness to extend drives by pushing the ball over Jake's. Plus, Beathard has a much, much stronger arm. For instance, some game week interviews of the players came out, and Tevaun SMith our #1 reciever, had mentioned that when they ran deep routes, they would have to slow down because of Jake's lack of arm strength.

Again, why I dont think Jake was a bad QB at all, I think for what our O needs, Beathard is a better option. When Jake has a good running game, and a good D, he can manage a game and be a good QB. But last year, we had neither. We needed him to go out and make plays. Some games he would (NW, Indiana), and he would light it up. However, most of the time, he went into a shell (ISU, Ball st, second halfs vs Neb, and Wisc).

Rudock looked like an all B1G QB against Wisconsin.

I agree with most of what you said though, Beathard might give them a better shot to win this year with what they have. I do think a lot of that is just blind faith though because Beathard was not impressive last year in games and obviously didn't win the battle over during the season because of his practice performances

He threw 90 balls to Rudock's 350.

If Rudock was missing open players downfield all the time as you keep saying I'm sure there was plenty opportunities for Beathard to throw wide open TD passes in those 92 attempts.

If all of these Hawk fans are correct and Beathard should have been starting last year, just makes me laugh about the $4 million down the drain more.

The Pitt game doesn't count because CJ didn't start.

I think Rudock could be a very good QB at Michigan. And he did have a few good games. But in most games he was really bad, beyond what stats can tell you. I think our coaches have a tendency of killing the will of QBs and dissuading them from pushing things and taking calculated risks. KF is the most risk averse coach in FBS in my opinion. We'll see if the same thing happens to CJB.

Beathard won Iowa the Pitt game last year a la Stanzi/Christensen. Rudock lost Iowa a lot of games last year and the year before. Beathard is not only able to throw the ball down field where Rudock is completely inept but his ability to throw quickly and with velocity is the only style that suits Davis' scheme. Defenses won't be able to stack 8/9 in the box to defend the run anymore as well.

No, there wasn't, because our WRs weren't very good at getting separation. That's why when they did, it made no sense to not take advantage of it. If you watched Iowa all year, you'd know that.

If Iowa lost games the last two seasons it was Rudocks fault. Why do I have a feeling when Iowa loses games this year it will not be Beathards fault?

You said you saw many times Iowa players running wide open down field with Rudock at QB. Did it just not happen with Beathard in there?

Like I said, I did watch Iowa last year

I don't know, why do you get that feeling?

It's a lot more acceptable to lose a game if you give your team the best chance to win, Rudock wasn't the best QB and didn't give Iowa it's best chance to win games last year. That changes this year.

Kirk Ferentz didn't want to win last year. Got it

Rudock was on the field >80% of the time. Maybe "many" was an overstatement, but yes it happened enough times for it to be noticeable to people watching. And much of the time when CJB was in our brilliant coaches treated him like Jameel Holloway and tried running a bunch of option BS.

Kirk Ferentz didn't want to win last year. Got it

He wanted to win with his guy, "someone you want your daughter to marry". Brad Banks should have started over Kyle Mccann, Stanzi should have started over JC, and Beathard over Rudock. KF can't evaluate QB's and that's nothing new.

Twins, you keep saying you watched them last year. Was the offense ever more interesting than what they showed against us? Cause that would be coma-inducing, regardless of the quarterback. And does Beathard's promotion change the boring play-calling any?
