*** Monte Morris NBA Analysis/Assumptions ***

I'm more curious as to why people care so much? Would I love to have him here all 4 years? Absolutely. Am I going to make assumptions based off of other people's careers that have zero credence in MM's decision? No. Just enjoy his time here.

I've used this reference before, but.......

Monte Morris last year:
11.9 PPG, 5.2 APG

Rajon Rondo's last college year:
11.2 PPG, 4.9 APG

He's also the same size Rondo and CP3 were at his age (and other to pgs I'm sure) even though I'm sure someone will say he's too small.

1. Because McDonald's All-Americans are guaranteed to succeed in the NBA.
2. Because going one year earlier is such a huge deal.

you are being sarcastic but you are actually correct. for a lot of guys, getting into the first round is about PERCEIVED upside. the longer you are in college, the higher the confidence level of your projection to many GM's. if you are a stud, thats fine, but MM doesnt project to that level in the NBA. hes too short and doesnt have speed or athleticism to overcome it, at least in terms of being a high pick. that doesnt mean he cant be an NBA player though.

Barring some unforeseen reason he takes a nosedive in production on the court, he will declare for the draft after this season. Foregoing his senior season. No question about it!

When is he scheduled to graduate? I assume he has been taking summer school every year.

I think it's funny how people like to bring up guys like Rondo, CP3 or Tony Parker to prove that Monte isn't too small for the NBA. Those guys are once every few years talent levels who are still small for their position in the NBA but have exceptional talent that make up for it. Not saying size is a major problem for Monte but strength & frame are a concern at the next level.

After watching Monte splash threes last year how could anyone assume he isn't going to improve on that? Of course he's in the league next year. People absolutely gush over Monte. 10 lbs of muscle and another year of incredible facilitation and ball control automatic leave for NBA.

MM is a great talent, but when the game is on the line, the ball is frequently not in his hands, it goes to Niang.

It has been hard to judge MM because he had both Kane/Niang his freshman year to help run the offense, and Niang last year. We have been a unique team under Hoiball.

He puts up outstanding A/T stats, but I would like to see him come back his senior year and really "run" the offense before I could determine how successful he will be as an NBA PG.

Having said that, I am mentally prepared for the team to lose almost everyone next year, including MM.

Everyone knows he is a great facilitator and if he is consistent from 3, shows he is an improved scorer and we have a deep run in the tourney I can see it happening. If he goes pro because we had a great year that is fine by me. I don't think he is a surefire draft pick at the moment. IMO

We've got people on here saying his ball handling is ok. His ball handling would be elite in the NBA right now even if it doesn't improve.

You don't have to say he's perfect in order to say he can play in the league. I bring up those two because everybody knows them regardless of how old you are. If we're talking all time great point guards Monte's game is much more like Stockton's than either of them...another guy who Monte will end up being a similar size to more or less. There are plenty of guys that size (CP3, Rondo and Stockton) who aren't rare talents anyway, it's not like every 6'2" or shorter player has to be a hall of famer.

I think obviously we all want him to stay 4 years. But I'm not really high on rationalizing why he can't play in the league when, as somebody who prefers NBA to NCAA basketball, I really don't see any reasons he can't and won't.

I do think just on his ability to take care of the ball and facilitate he could have a solid NBA career as a back up point guard. As a coach it would be nice to have that coming off the bench.

He's going to have to get bigger, score more, and raise his three point percentage. He'd have to take a few large steps to go Pro after this year.

If Monte only averages 11.9 ppg this year he will not be a first round pick unless he completely dominates the NCAA tournament or something IMO. He needs to show he can score more. Players that are highly regarded out of HS are believed to have more upside so yes I think they have a big advantage over a player like Monte. See Tyus Jones

I don't think he'll ever be a first round pick, he's going to be a back up pg type in the NBA, it's just a matter of when he wants to make the jump. If he's ready to get paid after this season, then he may as well start earning money a year earlier.

I don't think Monte is ready but Matthew Delladova was starting in the NBA Finals this year so nothing is out reach for anyone.

I don't think most of the people saying he'll be gone after this year follow the NBA too closely.

Unless guys just hate college or have academic problems they don't leave early to be mid-late second round picks...and that is where MM is on all the draft boards that he shows up on at all.

He could certainly play his way up this year but it's ridiculous to act like its a foregone conclusion that he's gone.

He has a career average of 40% from 3-point range. That's a great percentage for someone considered to be a pass-first point guard.

This guy has spoken. Monte will be back. Close thread.
