They are improving at a slow and steady pace where the year 5 peak was similar to Fred's year two. If they improve in year 6 and 7 I'll be truely impressed...I'm not sure a year 8 is in the cards if the next two aren't great.

yes all that happened in the past and Ames golden boy still used ISU as a stepping stone. So even if your new head coach recruits and does well he's just going leave anyway.
I'm crossing my fingers that with Prohm we finish middle of the pack in conference and go to the tournament in his fifth year. If he accomplishes that then I will praise him on the progress he has made. Hopefully with little success he'll stay.
Talk about idiots. What coach in the country, who has success is not a possibility to leave their present school? Outside of coach K, Calipari, and Self I can't think of many, and even they are sometimes rumored to be on the short list for NBA teams. You think if Fran somehow magically had the success that Fred had, and was offered an NBA job ( or several) he wouldn't leave Iowa City? But it continually happens to ISU, even when they're just 'ok' coaches like Chizik, they all can't wait to get out. There was a time when Ferentz was just as sought after as Fred for NFL teams and Iowa anted up. ISU doesn't have the budget to keep a really good coach and Iowa has a richer history in football/basketball and isn't looked upon as the 'stepping stone' that ISU is.

You're a little slow if you think Iowa State wouldn't have paid Hoiberg. Although he is making a lot of money with the Bulls, it wasn't about money, and more about being in the NBA.
I guess I'll choose to believe your AD Pollard who said Hoibergs salary was as high as they could afford.

I read where Pollard said they basically couldn't afford to pay Hoiberg more. I agree he didn't leave necessarily because of money but that doesn't change the point that ISU can't afford to retain a coach. Therefore in basketball or football if a coach has success in Ames, he'll be gone soon.
Again, read a little more about what Fred and Jamie said. Iowa State could have paid Fred more money, but he didn't let it get to that point. It was about going to the NBA.
LOL.....man you are delusional. Money was not the reason that Fred left for the NBA. Even if ISU could have afforded to pay him 5 million a year (which would have been insane), it very likely would not have kept him in Ames, so it really is a moot point.
You bring up Free Rents and say how Iowa paid him....yeah they did.....and look how that brilliant move has paid off. He now makes everyone's list as one of the most over-paid coaches in all of college sports, considering the results. But go ahead, keep bragging about the fact that Iowa was able to over-pay a mediocre coach and retain him. It makes you look really, really smart. What a tool.
