Keeping TJ

I might add that if TJ is kept on staff he will do an excellent job IMO. He is a class individual from all reports And a man of integrity. He will do the best job he can.

While I was not overwhelmed with any of the interviewees, I feel they would have ALL been decent hires. It is over and done now and we must all support our new coach. So let's just stop with negative posts and predictions of doomsday. Nothing good comes of it.

We hired the best candidate we interviewed, don't try saying it would have been even no matter what because that's false. You were wrong, suck it up.

Tell that to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Thier HC and associate both interviewed for the HC position.

Weren't they both on the same staff before the interview? Different situation. However TJ and Prohm are both professionals and good men.

Uh no? Blatt was in Europe and Lue was with the Clippers. But unlike the example I gave, Prohm and Otz actually had a previous relationship.

Hopefully TJ is on staff to form a great duo, but if he doesn't intend to stay for a couple years, might as well cut ties now imo.

It is tough to recruit to Ames, but Prohm has recruited guys to Murray, Kentucky and the OVC.

Agree on the duo part. Although, if there's anything this whole off-season taught us is to never assume too much. lol
There's been so much spin, or at least speculation. I hope TJ comes out and is honest (no spin) about whether he would just as soon not stay , or to really want to commit to a Cyclone program with someone else, just not Fred this time. You wonder if he's already second-guessed cancelling that UWGB interview. But the profession of coaching has lots of ifs and buts to it, I'm sure. If our present players are that close to him as being suggested, then I hope he wants to stay. And that Prohm also brings in another strong recruiter as an assistant in case TJ goes for a head job next year.

Didn't Grant follow Donovan to OkCity?

Hasnt been made official but it is speculated that he will. But I don't think Thunder have officially announced. But would make sense. But my ideal staff if still Otzelberger, his one guy from Murray State and then I would say either Mann or Chew and then getting his assistant Kane as D Ops and then keeping one of our D Op guys in the other role.

Good grief. CW, Jeremy, Reid Forgrave, Keith Murphy along with myself all thought that TJ should get the nod.

Get some freaking maturity. Talk about childish. Grow up.

Neither were on the staff of the Cavaliers?? So Lue took the job of assistant AFTER not getting the HC position?

You guys know that TJ didn't have to sign here as an assistant in order to become HC right? We didn't hire Prohm as assistant first.
I think that unless they talk and realize it is the best scenario for TJ to move on, that TJ will be on staff. Because he is a professional and so is Prohm and Prohm knows the benefits of keeping a guy who has held the team together and recruited half of the team. He will also assure that we don't lose a guy like Noskowiak, which we can't afford to do at this point. Plus it will make it easier to fill the final two spots keeping a guy who has already been recruiting for Iowa Sttate and having him work with Prohm to figure out the best guys for the final spots. Because we need at least one more player that can play right away. Not a stud, but a solid bench forward.

Not to mention it would be in Otz best interest to stay, because winning will actually help his résumé. He can't be that dumb.

I was under the impression they THOUGHT he WOULD. Not that he SHOULD.

Actually they said SHOULD. That was their opinion. I have said all along they were all similar IMO. And the reason I went with TJ was familiarity and he is a helluva recruiter and has been at Iowa State and done a great job here.

This sure as hell was not a contest amongst posters on CF. It was about selecting a Head Coach from a field of candidates, that IMO were pretty mediocre. Prohm supposedly had a great interview and has a decent resume. There are some concerns going forward, as there was with ALL the candidates. Hopefully those concerns do not come to fruition.

But just stop acting like this was all a contest with winners and losers amongst Cyclone fans. That is just sheer stupidity. It is immature and childish. And you really need to grow up. Your mother needs to take your computer away. It is bedtime now. Good night.

Just for a reality check. KU signed another 5 star.

For those who think TJ is the recruiting answer I'm not so sure. Yep TJ brought in some nice players but it was Fred who helped turned Naz and Ejim into the players they are. Also I don't think we get Niang and Monte without Fred. I think we are all hoping to take that next step to be competing for top talent every year but I don't think TJ alone could make that leap. Fred and TJ together I think we could of. I'm hoping TJ and Prohm together can but I'm skeptical. For what it is I like the hire but I think a lot of people think Fred left us in a much better situation then he actually did. So unless we truly had a chance for a splash hire but went cheap or whatever please don't blame JP if this doesn't turn out how we all want it to.

My only concern about keeping Otz if this is just a 1 year deal, is that if he were to pull a Matt A, and steal a bunch of our recruits on his way out. I hope Otz would be willing to stay on longer term.

I'm not sure 'steal' is the word, but I agree w/ your point. That wouldn't be much fun again. I remember when TJ first came back he answered fans twitter questions. One question was something like, "what is the best thing to sell ISU to recruits"? I think he answered , " playing in Hilton Colisuem" or something similar. Not saying, "playing up-tempo or NBA offense, playing for Hoiberg, four straight NCAA tournaments, etc. ". Now, I do think that was the best answer to give , but you do wonder if all those offers that came quickly were TJ thinking they'd be recruits playing for him? Idk, so hard to know considering all the stuff we've rehashed this past two months. But, like someone said, TJ will be able to land plenty of jobs.

What about the good players TJ got for McDermott? He has a proven record of bringing talent to Ames.

link? If there were the equivalent of Rivals/247 back then I don't doubt that Fizer would have been higher but we'll never know because I don't believe that Rivals put out rankings like that back then.
There were recruiting rankings back in the 80s not rivals but there were
