He deleted the previous post so I'd guess it's a pump the brakes thing.

I've been doing this so frequently, lately, it feels like I'm participating in a lamaze class. Is it just me or does it seem like we're having the same exact discussion as a week and a half ago? I stated then about our budget, what and who JP was targeting, and ultimately why Leath was going to be involved. I realize that was all back before any of it became more visible (especially the Leath part) but it shouldn't really warrant this type of confrontation amongst everybody.
Just take a deep breath and step away from the keyboard for a few minutes.

You got lost once again, I see. Don't let it frustrate you, it was my mistake. I should have known you would not understand what that exemplifies, but rather it would distract your simple mind.Good lord swarth, get a ******* grip. You're the one that keeps harping on losing to UAB as if it means ANYTHING for next year. It doesn't.
Not surprised you think it does though.
If JP only wants to spend between 1.25 and 1.75 million, that is disappointing on so many levels.
If that's truly the case, then just hire TJ right now and get this over with. He's easily the best candidate we could get in that price range IMO.
Now.... if we're willing to go to 3.5 or 4 million, then I think that brings in some names like Dixon, Gottfried, maybe a Jay Wright even in to play and that would be VERY exciting.
I wish JP could make a splash hire like we did with Johnny Orr, but if he is intent on spending less than 2 million, we might as well just announce TJ tomorrow and move on.
And rumor has it this TJ character doesn't have any HC experience. I know it's a rumor but that's the word on the street

Well do you guys expect a buyout of Rhoads after next season, or would you rather ride that out and have a kick *** basketball coach? That's the **** that JP has to choose between.
Trent Johnson makes $1.5 mil at TCU. Sure, he has experience, but it's TCU. Tubby Smith makes $1.6 mil at Tech (again, I know it's Tubby, but it's also Tech). It's baffling to me that JP appears to want to hand the keys to what could be a Final Four, Big 12 title-contending team to a guy meriting as little as $1.25 mil.
Considering the full range in the NCAA of salaries, excluding Coach K and Calipari, is like $3.9 million, I think $1 million per year is a whole hell of a lot.
Especially since I'd expect the fully guaranteed contract to be for 5 years or so.
And the P5 spread is even less, probably closer to $3 million.
Take away Izzo, Self, and Pitino and that spread closes down another whole million dollars.

I'll go with the kick *** basketball coach. I don't think we'll ever be very good at FB (especially with the Big XII gauntlet schedule) - might as well shoot for the moon to get a top-tier basketball coach to build on our recent hardwood success! KU has a crappy FB team - but the national exposure for their basketball success more than makes up for that, imho.Well do you guys expect a buyout of Rhoads after next season, or would you rather ride that out and have a kick *** basketball coach? My ears just perked up when you said
"A good example is both of the surprise candidates would command 3+, with one being around 4."
Because to me that means a much bigger name than I was expecting.
The rest is just a stupid argument about if another coach would take a $1 million or $1.5 million raise to coach this ISU team.
I really hope if Jamie hires a guy in the this 3.5-4 million range he offered Fred every bit of that and more in private to stay.
If the "mystery candidates" would take between 1.25 and 1.75 million, then they are FAR from any kind of "splash" hire at all.
Does JP want ISU men's basketball to be a player on the national stage and fighting for Final Fours, or does he want to go back to us being a team that is happy making the NCAA Tourney once in a while? 1.25 million will likely get us someone that struggles to get us in the top half of the Big 12, and only making the tourney once in a while.
We're talking about percentages here for raises. It's not a straw man. It's a legitimate question. If you knew the salary of the guy you were replacing, would you demand less money than he was making just because you felt like it was too big of a raise?

Just trying to settle everybody down a bit and clarify what people were jumping to conclusions on - it's getting out of hand.
