To be honest with you, I am in favor of waiting awhile to see if there is another "brand" name coach that emerges. Take our time and make the right hire. If there is not a good candidate that emerges after two weeks hire T.J.
I'm sorry those other candidates have mediocrity written all over them, and in another four years we will be doing this search again.

Just a question....I get that these are all so-called "mid-major" coaches. And I'm certainly not anti-TJ. But most of what I read is about Prohm/Underwood. Why are people not talking more about Bryce Drew? He did play in the NBA, and actually played with Fred for one year with the Bulls. He's had good success at Valpo, winning the conference this season after losing half of his scoring from the previous team, and took Maryland to the wire (lost by 3) in the NCAA tournament. So he's had NBA experience, assistant experience, and 4 years of head experience. Are people not talking about him more due to concerns of recruiting ability, playing style, personality, or what? Just curious. Again, I have no favorite in the list of four.

Drew has been thru the fire, coached in the tourney, and as u said played in the NBA. I think he's a rising star and would recruit incredibly well here. His offensive system isn't really NBA style so much but his team's play very good D...rebound the ball very well and they shoot the 3 as much as IsU did.

Drew won the Horizon league and for many on here we can't possibly hire a mid major coach from the horizon league...oh wait TJ was getting ready to interview in that conference. Drew won it.

IsU daily had an article yesterday I believe that listed 6 candidates including JH and Altman? Maybe it was just potential.

And also interviewing at a school that was moving up to the Horizon League.

No one has said that. Nice try though. Think Drew is a decent coach.

One factor to consider is that programs like Valpo and Murray State were winning conference championships long before Bryce Drew and Steve Prohm became head coach. For their leagues, those programs are top programs and have been for a while. Stephen F. Austin is a different in that they have had little success prior to Underwood.

Why does that matter? Our program has had success the last few years and we want to continue that success. I don't get why that is a knock on them. If they weren't good coaches the program would've declined.

Altman is just another McDermott, good mid -major coach and can't coach in the big 12

The two seasons before Underwood took over at SFA they went 12-4 and 16-2 in conference and 20-12 and 27-5 overall. I would not call that a little success. He was handed a winning team as well.

Thats probably a valid point. For the poster that says Drew doesn't really run an NBA style....what exactly does that mean. Does it mean they're not up-tempo enough? I do agree we have to run with this team coming back, especially McKay. Woo!

Easier to maintain a program than build one. Success in the short term is nothing like a tradition of success.

So what your telling me they were handed a good thing and did not screw it up, kind of like our situation next year isn't it.

Isn't that what we are looking for? Fred built up the program now we want someone to maintain that success? I'm not understanding your argument. Sorry. I'm not even saying that those guys are my top choices. All I'm saying is that those guys took over good programs and the continued to build upon that which is exactly what we are trying to do.

Big difference in taking over a perennial conference champion and a middle of the pack team.
