Can we have a site wide agreement that no KU affiliated names will be attached to this coaching search? That's like my #3 criteria after playing style and recruiting.

It just pizzes me off for like the next 30 minutes when someone says "Larry Brown" or "Jerod Haase" or "Danny Manning". I will mention on KU name that does not make me mad, "Greg Ostertag".
Jacque Vaughn doesn't make me mad. He's pretty likeable. I hate him for that! Screw Jacque Vaughn! He makes me mad!

To everyone wanting a BIG name

I am surprised with everyone who wants a big splash hire. Sure all these names sounds great but what happens at the end of the day if we keep racking up the wins and make some deep runs in the NCAA tournament? Odds are they will leave again, maybe for a "bigger" college program.

Otzelberger has everything thing we are looking for. To me he is a proven recruiter. Heck, if he can recruit guys to play under McDermott's style of play he can recruit anyone. He has a long history here and it seems like his family wants to be here long term. Allison's comments on their kids seeing their first game would be at Hilton and not Washington was pretty reveling how much Iowa State means to them. The current kids already love him and he recruited a lot of them. He is obviously going to keep they same style of play.

I heard that answer, which IMO is a nice way of saying they didn't make him an offer. I don't care if he did say it would make no difference, you still put the biggest offer you can muster in front of him. It most likely wouldn't matter, but thoughts can change when its sitting in front of you. Had to go down swinging because its Fred. Whatever, time to move on.

How do you know he wasn't offered more money and turned it down anyway?

Who gives a ****? They had success and left. Perfect!

Re: To everyone wanting a BIG name

What happens if/when we hire a small name (like TJ) that racks up the wins and makes some deep runs in the NCAA Tournament? Odds are they will leave, maybe for a "bigger" college program.

Your post is stupid because Otzelberger may just leave us in a few years if he is successful. As for "Allison's comments", Fred Hoiberg was supposedly going to stay at ISU until all of his kids graduated high school - how'd that turn out? Which is why I want the best coach possible. If that's TJ, great. If we can get a name brand coach, all the better.

So....Royce White DID NOT play in the NBA is that what you're telling me?

I think he was referring to how many players have actually been drafted and not free agent pick ups.

Prohm will have 2 players from Murray State in the NBA after this year's draft, Canaan and Payne.

Hoiberg will have 3 - White, Babb, Garrett, and that is from a power conference.

Yes, NBA picks don't equal a great team, but it does help. If Prohm can get those quality players at the Murray State level, and develop them well, I think he can do it at the ISU level.

Because Fred reportedly told Jamie......."NO Renegotiation. This is NOT about money."

What part of that is difficult to understand? Fred told Jamie it was all about the dream of the NBA. Money was not the issue.

You forgot Wayne Morgan, Gregg McDermott, and if you go way back....Ken Trickey.

Morgan was fired at his mid-major job, which should've been a sign not to hire him.

It's also why I would like to see what TJ would do at a lower level job as a hc before handing him the reigns

Saying "be glad it happened" is all fine and good ... I am. My question is: since Fred came asking for the job what is in his contract? In most cases colleges need to buy out remaining contracts with coaches if they want to fire them. In this case Fred left in the middle of a contract. Does Fred owe the university cash in exchange for leaving early? I suppose that he had more leverage when he signed the long term contract...

That's too simple. There has to be some sort of conspiracy theory.

Murray State was winning conference championships and getting very good players LONG before Prohm became Head Coach.

$500,000.....a drop in the bucket as far as that deal went.
