Royce White has played a total of 3 NBA games in his life. That's only three more than you and I.

True, but he was a 1st round draft pick. Fred got him there, it's not Fred's fault Royce hasn't been able to stick.

That's kinda my point. What happened was awful, but I really don't get why he is to be held accountable for it, or why it would damage his reputation in any way.

Problem is, as someone pointed out yesterday, we're a school that sent Bubu packing. And then we're going to turn around and hire a coach that would've taken him?

That's a difficult move IMO.

FWIW - I've been on Altman for weeks - so I'm not saying "no". Thought it was simply pie in the sky. Grasping if you will. Actually shocked it's got some legs although I don't really know from where.

This is a real tweet from Randy Peterson. Who works at the most prestigious newspaper in the state.

JFC. No one, and mean mean NO ONE, is expecting any of those guys. Or anywhere close to those guys. Cyclone fans have "reeled in expectations" to the point where almost everyone knows Archie Miller is coming here.

Sarcasm Randy Pete....sarcasm

Maybe the heart surgery made him realize that he might have a shorter career window than most coaches in that he might not feel as comfortable coaching late into his 60's like many do. Who knows? All I know is that I fully understand why he took the Bulls job. It's in a city close to his extended family in Ames with a management group he knows that he gets along with for an organization that has shown they will always try to make the necessary moves to improve.

You have to have cardinal covered glasses real thick not to realize th Bulls HC job is better than the ISU job as much as I love ISU.

I know Fred is coming back Friday and said he will likely have at least a discussion with Pollard about who takes over. I think whoever is in on that meeting needs to listen very closely. He definitely wants what is best for Iowa St and has likely spent some time thinking about who would work best not only for this year, but going forward. Is it probably TJ? Likely, but you need to get his point of view if they haven't already.

No you don't. He left. No body owes it to him to listen to who he wants to take over for him. If JP wants to, fine, but I don't think I would.

Finally someone with some logic....Prohm would be a great hire as well. Dude can flat out get it done. How many players did Fred get to the NBA? Zip. Prohm has done it at Murray state for godsakes, Murray freaking state.

Most of you on here see all these mid major candidates and freak out because u think that all mid major coaches are awful and can't possibly recruit at the P5 level...While it is true that some can't when they get to P5 there are a lot that can. Archie miller sure didn't have a tough time getting good players to Dayton. He's only made more sweet 16 than Fred.

I don't use the model of using NBA draft picks as the measuring stick of success for our basketball program.

Gregg McDermott would be ranked pretty well. Craig Brackins, 21st pick in the NBA Draft.

I just, I can't even.

No please do. Go right ahead. I'm a big big boy. I was obviously pointing out that there are mid major coaches who have recruited good talent to very low major schools. Forgot about Babb. Not sure how to categorize RW...yet. Garrett was a McDermott guy more or less. My point is that many on here just see the name of the school a coach is from and think oh wow he wouldn't recruit at IsU so just hire Otz.

This is my opinion only, but I'm sure there are many reasons:

- He has twin little girls, and I think he and Allison are sincere in wanting to raise them in Ames
- Fred had his surgery scheduled and was going to be out for ~3 months. With Matt A gone, they needed someone to fill that gap
- JP knew Fred might leave and having TJ, who has a close relationship with most of the players, on staff would help whatever transition happened
- By coming back he is guaranteed to be a candidate
- Romar probably only has 1 year left at Washington and getting out of there before getting fired is a good idea
Ok, give him a one year million dollar contract.

i don't either. While it certainly doesn't hurt the program and recruiting when u can develop and send kids to the NBA on a regular basis it isn't the end all be all for me either. You can have a great college team without having an NBA player on your roster, although history usually shows that in order to win titles and get to the FF you need some NBA level talent on your roster. We have one right now, although I do think Morris has a decent shot at getting drafted. If Niang has a great year he could too.

Fred could probably turn out to be a very big donor in his lifetime to Iowa State. Probably don't want to tick him off too much.

Plus, it only makes sense to listen to smart people. We're talking about a guy who was on track to be an NBA team President. Thats a smart guy. Pollard is a smart guy. He'd be an idiot not to at least get input from smart people on the process. Holding a grudge because he left would be cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Not that enthused about Prohm. He had a 3-4 record in close games this past year. He has been successful, but Murray State has a long tradition of excellence at their level in their conference. They were winning conference championships long before Prohm was Head Coach. And when you lose more close games than you win....that says something.

Keith Murphy asked him yesterday if Pollard and Co. came to him about increasing his salary at Iowa St and Fred said he wouldn't let them do it.

I heard that answer, which IMO is a nice way of saying they didn't make him an offer. I don't care if he did say it would make no difference, you still put the biggest offer you can muster in front of him. It most likely wouldn't matter, but thoughts can change when its sitting in front of you. Had to go down swinging because its Fred. Whatever, time to move on.
