Being College Coach Vs NBA Coach

A good example of NBA coaching is Lebron scrapping his coaches inbounds play to run his own (I'll just get open and make a shot) play.

I'll say it again. The pinnacle of coaching is Self, Knight, Coach K, Roy, Calipari, Pitino., Boeheim, Sean Miller, Lute Olson Those guys coach and have maintained elite programs.

1 out 10 people maybe could tell you who coached Lebron during his Miami tenure.

Right, the allure of the league matters to those who have the possibility of coaching there...like Fred.

But the debate is valid. The NBA isn't automatically better because it's the highest level of professional basketball.

You can prefer watching college basketball, and have a stronger rooting interest or like the atmosphere better, but there's no logical argument you can make that the quality of play is anywhere close to that of the NBA.

Well when you're allowed to travel with the ball it does create more offense and more interesting moves on offense.

Lebron tells his coach to sit-down and let him coach.

BTW, how's Miami's coach doing?

Um...yes, yes you can. The talent on an NBA floor no doubt dwarfs that on its college counterpart...BUT...the Effort exerted by the participants is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH higher in a college game. Each college game is meaningful, every possession matters. In the NBA each team will give its fans maybe 20 games where they play exceptionally hard against rivals or playoff contenders and 60 games that are just pickup games. Its a joke.

That's great for fans, but how does that have any bearing on which job is better?

Again, each job has pro's and con's but us speculating at which would be better for Fred is really kind of petty and selfish.

Link to where college players play harder?

We can grab ten people off this board and go out and play super duper hard, does that make our game better than college then?

If you can't tell by watching the games, then you obviously aren't watching the games. There is always a tenseness in college basketball that can't be matched by the NBA until the playoffs. You know that and are purposely being obtuse about it.

To play devil's advocate, I seem to remember after several losses this past year quotes from the ISU players saying they didn't bring their A games or didn't prepare or focus or basically take a team as seriously as they should have...even during the conference season. Your logic is flawed. There is no difference in terms of effort.

Anytime the talent levels are more equal, the coaching becomes more important. And talent level across teams is far more equal in the NBA than in college (same for the NFL vs. college).

Also, Phil Jackson, Larry Brown, Red Auerbach, Pat Riley, Greg Poppovich, George Karl...

complete BS...those other teams we were playing? They were giving it their all. Our guys were loafing in those games. Maybe it was because we had a coach who wanted to get ready for the NBA gameflow.....

I'm just joking....kind of.

One of those guys is still coaching. The others have been out of the NBA for how long?

To the extent you're not joking, you're telling me that ISU plays as hard against Texas Tech as they do against Kansas? If you believe that, then I have a bridge to sell you. Hell, our team couldn't even muster the sense of urgency to take a team in UAB seriously in the NCAA tournament. There is no difference. Your position is based on a romanticized notion that college athletes are amateurs that put their heart and soul into every performance and that professional athletes are spoiled brats that only care about money. Neither generalization is true.

That is pretty funny, and notable as that's one of the NBA's biggest stars. Proof positive that especially in the regular season, unless they are trying to boost their own offensive stats they don't really try.

Harden didn't play defense in the Western Conference Finals, thanks for pointing out 1 player.
