Official 2015 Hoiberg NBA Speculation Thread

if this ends up that Hoiberg is staying (doubtful myself), lots of egg for some people on here.

I've got to disagree with what Ross said about this on the radio. This situation is not just about the money. No matter how much money you think we can throw at Fred it may not make any difference. If he really wants to coach in the NBA there isn't anything he can do. And that doesn't mean Jamie is lying, the Bulls or other teams can't "officially" contact anyone while they still have a coach, I imagine but I'm not a lawyer. Twitter and everyone just getting the cart ahead of the horse.

I got too caught up in this talk during the realignment but am sitting most of this one out. Realignment really does have the possibility of destroying ISU athletics but as much as Fred leaving would such it's not the end of the world.

I've been offline most of the day - any real news?
Actually a lot:
-Niang said team has been having calls and they are sticking togethor.
-According to Matt Thomas Hoiberg met with players before they left and said he was coming back.
-per Niang players think he is coming back, but regardless if he does they will.
-Otz has a horrible poker face.
-Otz confirmed Fred is the head coach of Iowa State.
-No team has requested to talk with Thibs.
-Bulls have yet to formally communicate with Fred about vacancy.
-Hornacek's wife called Mark Charter about houses in Ames. just kidding

That would actually be worse. I want him to stay, but not just for one year.

No this wouldn't be worse. This is what I have expected for awhile. I feel like Fred really needs to see this team with George through to the end and make it the best team and finish in ISU history. Then go out on top. If Fred really wanted to coach in the NBA then he was never going to be a lifer, unless ISU elevated its status to professional basketball...

Somebody needs to stop by Fred's house with a copy of It's a Wonderful life. Maybe Fred will turn out like George Bailey yet.

A toast to Fred Hoiberg, the richest man in town.

So I don't end up with egg on my face I'll say my peace and then just observe this thread.

I know he's leaving this year.
He's obviously staying just for one more year.
He's going to stay for the foreseeable future.

And no, I'm not going to just observe. I like adding to the chaos.

For ISU, it is worse. Our 2016-17 team would be in complete rebuild mode. It would be difficult to attract a coach. Even if Fred was able to bring in recruits, they would probably leave once Fred announced he was leaving.

If he leaves now, we have a team that is expected to stay together (most out of options) and be a Top 10 team. That is more attractive to a coach. (Even if it is late in the game.)
