Chieck Diallo rumors

Sometimes (and I am going to get flamed here) I feel like we should be dumping our resources into the "4 star" guys, you know the ones who have a chip on their shoulder, that will stay 2 years plus (Monte Morris, Georges Niang) and develop into good to great players. I would love to have a 8 man rotation of these guys, and you can win a national title doing it, especially with the transfers sprinkled in. Dirty recruiting in college basketball is the worst kept secret there is and the UNC scandal being swept under the rug, as well as the NCAA likely looking the other way with UK and Calipari, (you can't tell me he is clean after 2 schools say otherwise).

Its frustrating is all I am trying to say. Its like trying to date the hottest girl in high school, and competing with everyone else. She is likely a spoiled ***** and worthless in the sack. Now her friend who is almost as hot feels like she has to work much harder and EARN what she gets.

Well from your own post, plus throw in SDW, Custer, Naz, Ejim, MT...we generally put most of our resources towards these kinds of players. Going after a couple 5 stars over the course of 2 years isn't really draining all of your resources. Fred has said he's going after players that he wants no matter what they are rated, transfer, or JUCO.

I think a big misnomer going around is that we're "putting all of our eggs in the Diallo basket" or we "put all of our eggs in the RV basket last season" when that is not the case. There is obviously contingencies in place for everything.

When you have one of the hottest young coaches in the game (in every sense of the word. Would) why not go for a hole in one every year? It's not hampering us.

I honestly hope we don't boo him (more than we normally boo kansas obviously) just because he made a choice where he wants to play. The kid did nothing wrong and is going through the process of picking a school. It just seems like that would be petty. Of course I boo Kansas all the time when they come to town, so maybe there is no difference

You boo the uniform, not the man.

I agree totally with you about the different avenues that we use. I am just frustrated with it only because I REALLY want to land one of these kids and the usual suspects keep getting them.

I'm hearing A LOT of steam about Chieck and Kansas. Still a lot of movement to go down, obviously. Kentucky will be a factor too. Just passing along what I'm hearing.

Whatever. ISU is a lot better place to play than Kansas IF YOU WANT TO REALLY BE APPRECIATED. ISU fans truly care about their players as they become more than just BB players........ they become our friends. Kansas is just a place who "rents" players and because of their short stay as in "one and done" the players don't invest enough of their time to be any thing but! If this guy is more into himself than becoming a cog in a very special place then good riddence.

Is this where everyone starts turning negative on the kid?

Whatever he decides, it's his choice and I for one, respect that. These kids are put under the microscope and people they don't even know wake up wondering what they are thinking. It's insane. Not one person on CF knows what's best for any of these recruits. So for people to turn on any recruit for making a decision they feel is the right choice for their life, is just pathetic.

Regardless of his decision, glad that we are being considered by top talent these days. We'll get ours when the fit is right for both sides.

That's a BS thing that we tell ourselves. The big programs keep up with their guys, too.
On the friends thing, tell that to Matt Thomas and his Twitter feed.

I can tell you 100% guaranteed that if we don't go after them, we will NEVER land one of them. It's a process:

Step 1: Get good coach
Step 2: Make NCAA tourney
Step 3: Get and Stay rated
Step 4: Make consecutive NCAA tournaments
-Start getting in on 5 stars
Step 5: Make Sweet 16
-Start making final lists for 5 stars
Step 6: Get to and Stay in the Top 10
Step 7: Make consecutive Deep tourney runs (setback this season)
-Land 5 star recruits

We've only been at this for 5 years and people are jumping off of bridges. It's coming, but it isn't coming overnight.

At this point, as long as he doesn't go to St John's, I would more or less accept it without too many complaints.

So you would rather face him 2-3 times a year as opposed to never face him? Basically you're grudging on Matt A for leaving?

I guess we just have to build an even bigger luxury hotel for basketball than Kansas did.

We can call it "The Hilton Hilton".

And Fred Hoiberg as your coach. And Hilton as your home court.

This all made sense when somebody picked a crap team, crap coach and crap fans (UNLV) over Fred and Hilton.

KU doesn't match that, good gym/team/coach, just happens that they are the biggest dbag fans on the planet. He probably won't ever realize that in his one season there.

They have a luxury hotel to boot.

Where do we stand on getting those CF nut cups? I have a feeling I need to prepare.

As opposed to Frank Mason being your point guard, Bill Self being your couch and Allen Fieldhouse being your home court? I have bias, so of course I'd pick ISU, but it should be no shock that someone with no bias picks KU over ISU.
