Phone Upgrade: The Decision

The S6 is going to be the best phone on the market when it's released but it will have a couple drawbacks with the new design. No expandable memory and no replaceable battery are two issues that would keep me from buying this phone. I'll probably wait until the S7 when they bring them back because of the negative feedback they'll receive for not including these two features. Expandable memory is a must for me.

I thought they canned the non-removable battery idea?

Need a new phone so badly.....looked at the 5 and M8 last fall and now new ones are here........interested to see if either the 6 or M9 are worth jumping up to over their previous model. Though anything forward will be hugely different to me.

The battery can be replaced but it voids the warranty unless you send it in. It involves a crazy amount of work. The absence of expandable memory is a bummer. I love being able to have everything on my microSD. I can just remove it from my old phone and bam! Everything is now on my new phone.

I swear, Samsung is the only company that tries to emulate apple, they just constantly have their eye on them. Weird business. The others seem to just want to pave their own way. I dont know if it stemmed from their partnerships or what, but its very odd.

I've had the Galaxy S3 and the Note 2.

Currently, I have the Note 3 and the iPhone 6.

I'm planning on getting the S6 in a couple months.

By far the Notes have been the best phones for me. I'm not a fan of the iPhone 6, not sure the hype about them at all.

More people switch from Android to Apple than Apple to Android. I've always found Android to be way too gimmicky for my liking.

Anecdotally I know two people who started android, switched to i-phone, and then back to android. Don't know anyone the other way around. IMO no matter which way you go you are going to be pretty happy unless you are a complete tech nerd.

I held out on Apple phones for the longest time but my last two phones have both been iphones. My next phone will be an iPhone. I have never had an issue with them and they've never gotten slow on my like every droid I had in the past did. That said, now I kind of have the whole Apple set up going on so going to a Droid would be a pain and that plays into it too.

I think Samsung, Apple, and HTC all make excellent phones. It really comes down to personal preference. For me I have purchased iPhones. The main reason is I find all the bloat ware that gets put on Android phones unacceptable. The carrier I use is Verizon and they love to load up these phones. If and when Samsung or HTC draw the line and limit this I will look a little closer at their products. Choose what works best for you and your budget.

I have no clue why people are so obsessed with the iPhone. Apple lags a year after Samsung/Android comes out with new technology and Apple brands it as cutting edge technology (which it isn't).

Apple comes out with phones once a year. It's not fair to compare them to android phones when countless new phones come out every year.

OK, the first one is a year and a half old, and the second one is the Apple CEO's statement as a source? You're doing fanboy right.

I like that you pointed out that the article was a year and a half old even though I stated that in my post and provided recent supporting facts that would indicate the older article still holds true.

Search for people switching from Apple to android and let me know what you find. I find it odd that Samsung would hide those statistics if it were favorable to them.. Don't you?

i will gladly admit that you really can't go wrong with any of the top of the line phones available. When it comes down to choosing I think Apple fits the average consumers needs better than what Samsung phones.

Except it kind of is, considering apple is only in that position because they won't let anyone else use their operating system. So if they control it so closely, they also are solely responsible for the development pace.

I don't really care, I just find it funny how apple fanboys have jag off over how popular the iphone is. I have an android, I like it, and don't care what anyone else thinks.

And the apple CEO's statement is not 'facts".

My wife will be going from apple to Samsung.

My s5 was good enough when I got it but this last OS update sucks. I'd go back to iPhone in a second now. Aps on the Android are fewer and lower quality.

I love my S5. I would probably get another one of those instead of an S 6, because I love the fact that memory and battery are removable with the 5, but not the 6. The 6 seems like an iphone clone. Probably be ok with either.
