Matt Thomas predictions

Really? What was wrong with what I said? Instead of being a **** and posting a picture like that, how about you actually explain what makes you think Matt has no shot at the NBA? You know, actually have a discussion about it.

Be honest, you're stoned as **** and just trolling all of us right?

It doesn't need discussed because there is no discussion. The kid is a very average athlete, bad defender, average at best ball handler, a 27% three point shooter, a 34% overall field goal percentage, and has very little upside. You actually thinking he has a chance at the NBA makes you either:
a) A family member
b) A teenager at best
c) Simple
d) Trolling.

Which category does that NBA scout from the Georgia State game fall under? Trolling? Or was he a 16 year old NBA scout?

This thread probably won't be used to show cyclone fanatic basketball IQ.

considering a "good game" via CF is when he makes 2 of 4 shots......yep....NBA should be calling soon. Man...hope he doesn't come out early.

I think a quicker release would help tremendously. He has great form but seems to rely on it too much instead of just firing when open. The ball was in the hoop before it even touched Tyrus' hands because Tyrus knew he was gonna catch, shoot, make and repeat . Matty can make shots...he just needs to know its going in before he even touches the ball. ThugLife knew it was going in as well. So did Dedric. I'm not saying Matt is on their level, but mentality is a big part of shooting.

So tired of Matt-haters just throwing out insults when nothing else works. Give it a rest. We. Don't. Agree. With. Your. Assessment. Of. Matt. Thomas. It's ok. really.

A lot of immaturity here. Get a life. Take a rest. Step away from the players. Look in the mirror.

I think his release is fairly quick, but it's noticeably slower when he's hesitant to shoot (duh). You're absolutely right, he needs to just let it rip. When he does that (end of first half before Iowa game and WVU game) he makes them. When he has time to catch and think about the shot, he screws up.

His offensive rating per 100 possessions is five points better than Nader. Nader also shoots a lower percent on threes, Nader turns the ball over more, and Nader assists less. If we're going to hate on Matt so often, why not talk about Nader as well? Why is Matt the whipping boy?

Nader can play and defend the 2, 3, 4. Nader can play above the rim and block some shots. Nader can take the ball into the lane and actually come out with a hoop. Pretty much the only thing that Nader doesn't have that Thomas does is a concience.

I'm sorry to all you defenders. I'm not a hater, I'm really not, but slumps do not last 1.5+ years. At some point, you have to perform at a consistant level above that or the slump level is your true self. Sure seems like he is what he is at this point.

NBA?? That is laughable. He'd have to turn into Jimmer Fredette the next two years to get drafted. That's how crazy that notion is. Hoiberg was a late pick and he was a rifle from outside, not to mention he was twice the all-around basketball player and athlete that Matt Thomas is. Hoiberg could dribble, pass, defend, steal, rebound AND shoot and he still barely got drafted.

My prediction for Matty? He'll have a damn sight better career as a Cyclone than any of the rest of us posters.

I don't know if he will go to the NBA; my guess is he will be a long shot...but he'll see more more minutes in NCAA games, more media, more fans, more tournament games than any of us could ever dream of.

I think when comparing the efficiency of Nader and Thomas you have to consider that almost all of Thomas's looks and shots are catch and shoot spot up 3s, the most efficient shot in basketball.

Nader has some of those, but a large percentage of his shots are actually created by him and getting his own shot, something Matt is not asked to do. Matt isn't asked to handle the ball or dribble much.

Matt needs to hit more shots and needs to be able to get himself some space somehow or get confident enough to shoot when he's not wide open. And when he is wide open he needs to be hitting at a much higher rate. His totally wide open shot hit rate has to be the most disappointing part of his game.

Still time to turn it around and hopefully he does but he really hasn't been able to get it done out there. He looks uncomfortable with the ball and unsure of himself.

Like Frak I'm not a hater but it is what it is. He's gotta be better for the team to get where it wants to go. He certainly has the talent to do it.

You don't say.

Matt has the best free throw percentage on the team, but since he doesn't drive to the basket he doesn't get fouled often enough.

John Paxon wasn't exactly a speed demon and he did quite well in the NBA. He was also 2" shorter than Matt. If you can shoot, they'll make room for you. If things clicks for Matt and he starts shooting as well as everyone says he can, he does have a shot at the NBA.

Matt Thomas will never play point guard like Paxson* did. If Thomas had point guard skills he'd have a much better chance. Also was a different era. Every good team can spread you out now, and typically can create enough space to isolate a gigantic mismatch, which would be Matt Thomas guarding anyone in the NBA. Sure, he's got a chance (there's always one), but he will have to make every open shot. He won't be stashed on a roster unless he can do that. Teams aren't going to sign him and wait for him to improve. He doesn't have that luxury.

This is the correct take on the matter.

And even though I'm on "Team Matt" and want to see him succeed, I think starting threads like this is counterproductive. Personally, I plan on being quietly supportive and when he has a big breakout game THEN I will post a " suck it H8ers" thread. Until that happens this topic is just flamebait.
