McKay Starting Over BDJ

Does mckay continue to start?

OU has five guys who all play about 30 minutes a game. Two are 6'4'' shooters/scorers (Hield, Cousins), two are banging forwards, 6'8'' 230+ (Thomas, Spangler), and the fifth is a 6'0'' point guard (Woodard).

The problem with starting McKay and having McKay, Niang, and Hogue all on the floor at the same time is that Hogue will have to guard Cousins. I think we match up better with our "usual" five on the floor, and then Morris, Long, and BDJ can guard the three guards, and Niang and Hogue the forwards.

The alternative that might make sense is to start McKay over Hogue instead.

I'm still on the 8 man rotation and would like EdoZie to occasionally get thrown in. Come tourney time, overcoming injuries and foul trouble is huge. We were a 7 man rotation last year and when Georges went down, our final 4 run was over

Our FF run was over when Georges went down no matter what number of rotation we used in the regular season.

I hope this motivates BDJ to take his game to another level. He has been good so far, in many instances too unselfish, but if he can increase the his role in creating (on both ends) we will be a tough out. When it is not happening for Georges, BDJ has the ability to carry us.

I Liked McKay Starting

IMO starting McKay gives us stonger post defense with McKay, Niang and Hogue. It reduces the need to double down when the ball goes into the post, which has freed up opponent 3 point shooters. I also think it helps our defensive rebounding with Hogue playing the wing.

The other thing I like is the flexibility it gives Fred from a substitution standpoint. Bryce can sub in for Naz or Dustin. With Matt struggling with his stroke, we have been missing that consistent bench wing player. Nader can rotate in for Hogue or Niang. Or Fred can go with Niang, Hogue and Nader. It didn't happen today, but I think McKay starting opens more minutes for Edozie. Daniel gives ISU a physical defender and rebounder that will help match up against teams like OU, KU and UT. The other benefit is I think it allows Fred to get Monte's mpg down.

Think like Fred, Cousins would have to guard Hogue/Niang, which is a big mismatch down.

If I am Freddy, I'm sitting his *** on the bench a few more games and not starting him after I just bailed his *** out just four short weeks ago. For some reason, BDJ doesn't understand zero tolerance policies after the coaches have had to put up with his crap for so long. This shouldn't be something that has to be dealt with at this point in the season when we need to be playing our best ball heading into March.

I like the McKay start on Monday and beyond. Besides Naz & Georges, I think he's the other leader on that team no matter if he's on the bench or floor. He's a complete team player and leader. That can only help help us more in February and March.

Oh my god. He was late. Who the hell cares? Fred doesn't care.

Bryce has had several very good games lately. I don't care if he starts or if McKay starts.

This. He has been to three schools and gotten away with pretty much everything, and at the end of the day he is still playing D-1 basketball with nothing more than a slap on the wrist (if that).

Just because our previous transfers understood this is their last stop doesn't mean they all will.

HE WAS LATE. No one cares. Least of all Fred.

We generally start games shooting pretty poorly from outside, especially on the road. I would love to see McKay start against OU on Monday night and see if we can't get the inside game going before we start shooting the 3 ball.

I kind of hope the starting 5 isn't revealed until around game time at OU so OU can't scout accordingly...if that' even legal.

I also like McKay starting; I think it's a defensive strength though.

35 MPG / Morris
30 MPG / Niang, Hogue, Long, BDJ, McKay

10 MPG / Nader
5 MPG / Thomas

Starting doesn't matter *too* much. We're a core of six with two getting spot minutes/rotation.

Everyone plays the same amount of minutes regardless of who starts. OU doesn't care who Fred starts.

If you don't understand basketball well enough to understand, it's not going to help for me to explain. He is great at basketball, but he fits in better w an offense ran more like say......... Unlv.

Also, I knew you would cry yourself to sleep tonight upon hearing this news

Right, and the earth is flat, despite facts to the contrary. Let's see, I wonder what Fred thinks of BDJ's contribution to the team? Oh yeah, he loves BDJ's effort, as does the team.

Sorry, you're outnumbered by anyone who has a clue....

I'm still interested in seeing a Morris/BDJ/Hogue/Niang/McKay lineup. Now, the last reason for this would be to send Naz to the bench (he'd just be the odd man out starting lineup-wise; his minutes shouldn't go down at all).

My reasons:
1: The biggest negative from starting McKay over BDJ is how will BDJ's play be affected? There's less risk of this with Naz.

2. This should be a very good defensive lineup. With this team, and especially on the road, I'd sacrifice a little offensive early on for improved defense.

3. An almost guaranteed matchup advantage with BDJ on offense. Post him up a couple times early, get him involved in the flow of the offense and get a few points for him. Might decrease his few bad shots he often takes later on in games.

4. If the offense isn't flowing bring in Naz pretty early and change things up. Maybe teams don't identify him well off the bench. Especially tournament time.
