Keys To Beating The Hawks

I think the difference between Gesell and Morris is quite a bit smaller than a lot of you act like it is, but that's understandable because you're extremely biased. Gesell more than held his own against Marcus Paige, and even though after Iowa won that game I noticed a lot of people over here trying to discredit Paige, anyone outside of Cyclone Nation will admit he is one of the best guards in the country.

Gesell will hold his own against Morris. I'm more concerned about the BDJ match up. He's played very well lately.

Gesell had a great game against UNC, one of his best offensive efforts. However, if he did so good against Paige, why was Fran praising Clemon's D against Paige?

I am just saying that being amped up and focused on a game doesn't automatically make you great shooters on the road. ISU stunk at shooting on the road last year and they are shooting an identical 3pt percentage this year as they finished last year (with all those terrible road games included). It's hard to shoot on the road, no matter how focused you are. Go on the assumption that ISU will shoot worse than they normally do from deep and then try to figure out where they will compensate. If ISU can rebound their misses and get some put backs and keep Iowa from doing the same, they'll win. If not, they'll lose. Probably that simple unless Iowa shoots far worse than they traditionally do in a home game.

I really don't think ISU's ability to OFFENSIVE rebound is that critical in this game. What is important is that they don't give up too many offensive boards to Iowa.

Haven't read the entire thread so apologize if this is redundant, but I think it comes down to ISU's offense vs Iowa's defense. That is the captain obvious simple answer. But it's true. Iowa is almost certainly going to play the best defense we have seen yet. How we handle it will be key. We gotta make shots. But I'm nervous because it's always hard to play in the hole in the ground. Which is Carver.

The Hawkeye Nation thread has some decent conversation and legitimate basketball talk in it, which is surprising in this rivalry(other than Hawknick and Cyisnumber1/docho, who is already saying that we paid off the refs).

Play physical on Aaron White and keep him out of transition. He disappeared in game where a guy played physically with him last season. Uthoff and Clemmons could drop some 3s on us if they are left open, so we need to play consistent perimeter defense too. I don't expect them to light us up from 3 but they could hit some big ones if given too much space.

Here are the keys to the game.

1. Get on bus.
2. Get off bus.
3. Walk into Carver and accept the easy win.
4. Get on bus.
5. Get off bus and move on to playing worthy opponents. :jimlad:

If we are struggling to defend their frontline, I wonder if we will play any zone. We did against Maryland for a bit.

Iowa is a good team. Gesell has improved?

Iowa may win and Gesell may out perform Monte.

But you look like a complete idiot if you even try to say that Gesell has been as good as Monte. That's just silly.

i was at the game and thats my opinion. i realize that MM was a freshman but they are both a year older now and i am just calling it like i saw it.

You must of been in the "dean Oliver is better than Jamaal Tinsley" crowd in 1999/2000, when Oliver played his superbowls against Tinsley
