Huskers hire.... Mike Riley?

This is my stat of the day:

Pelini never lost more than 4 games a year at Nebraska. Mike Riley has lost at least 4 games a year at Oregon State.

Maybe that was peelings problem. Teams that aren't Alabama try to load classes to have a good year, that one special year an alright year and a bad year in 4 year cyCles. Peking seemed to balanc classes and just always have good years but never great years. I think Nebraska fans would trade the occassional subpar season for the occassional great season. I think Rhoads does this too our good year just fell flat and we ended up with 4 ok years and a couple bad. Look at Riley's 4 year cycle, I would love that as an ISU fan and I think that is what Rhoads is aiming for. Word is he was in the hot seat there though because he was on the same pattern and never raised the bar. I think that is the difference of ceiling that a Nebraska has and an OSU has. I think this is bennies best shot at winning another title so may end up being a smart hire.

If the team you take over has not had a winning season in three deaceds, and you manage to post a plus 500 record for the next decade in a half with the notable bad starts, you are a pretty good coach. He is OSU's Bill Snyder. They will fall back into the whipping boy after he leaves.

Dennis Erickson didn't seem to have a ton of trouble winning there.

They actually fell back to mediocrity the following year while Erickson was still the coach.

Face it - it will probably never be better than it was in 2000 for Oregon St, regardless who the coach is.

Dennis Erickson didn't seem to have a ton of trouble winning there.

See above Clark. That was one year.

Dead man walking.

This^^

He is lucky he is walking into a mediocre conference and a weak division. But after seven years of 9 win seasons, an 8 win season will have fans on his *** right out of the gate. NU made itself into a bad place to go compared to Michigan or Florida.

he is 61 he coaches for 4 years gets fired ,takes his buyout form Nebby and laughs his *** off and retires a rich man

This hire is little better than Florida hire. This isn't much of upgrade compare to BP.

this guy is a little better than PR, there are a lot of eerily similar things between the two though like losing to FCS schools and 2 conference wins in the past 14 games.

I'm not going to make this a PR thread. Sounds like message board people are excited he's gone. Also probably because the rumor is Riley is taking his DC with him, who is terrible.

Yippie, exactly what Nebraska needs. Another crappy d-coordinator. Would be funny if Nebraska reverts back to the defenses when Bill Callahan was coach. Might go back to giving up 70+ against the conferences top offenses.

Seems like a Chizik-esque hire. Wonder who will be the Husker's Scam Newton?

If we hear about Brett Bielema getting a new contract tomorrow, we know Knebraska got shot down, and made a rush hire disguised to look like "we knew who we wanted the second we fired Bo"

DE won 65% at Oregon State, Riley won 54%.

Remove the high and the low and you get your answer. I am not arguing coaching ability, just saying that going 11-1 that one year and following it up with a 5-6 season is not really saying he didn't have a ton of trouble winning there.

And you cannot really compare the sample sizes between the two. Remove the high and lows from each and you get 60% and 55%

This is an excellent hire for the Huskers. OSU was decent in the Pac12 with a few really good years. He is going to have better resources, better players, a weaker schedule, and far greater fan support. Riley is a well respected coach and good recruiter and the best thing is he is a complete 180 from Bo personality wise. Time will tell but IMO this is a great hire.

Lol...CPR isn't in Riley's category, this is a bad hire for NEbby, would be a home run hire for ISU.
