Huskers hire.... Mike Riley?

Maybe they thought they could hire Riley and get Frost to come on as OC? They would both know each other from the Pac-12. A Nebby fan told me yesterday he thought they could get both Tressel and Frost.

I thought when I read this, no way. Just a rumor. Then I found this:

http://www.omaha.com/huskers/footba...cle_f3ff8b00-7bd8-11e4-b8f6-57e17495ca94.html

Oregon State: Overall 93–80 Conference 58–63

Granted, he played for Bear at Alabama, and won SEC championships and a NC, but man. If I was a Husker fan I would be so damn mad right now. How do they make that sale to the fan base?

Crap. $12M to replace Bo with this. What a load of horse manure. Wait. I am a Clone fan. Pop some more popcorn.

This is my stat of the day:

Pelini never lost more than 4 games a year at Nebraska. Mike Riley has lost at least 4 games a year at Oregon State.

I can't help it...I keep thinking of this:

From reading about this guy, it's like the Huskers just hired Kirk. Minus the nepotism of course.

Their fans may not like it. I think Riley is considered a good coach, however, and he is in a tough place to win. It may turn out well for them in the long run but the initial reaction should be fun to watch.

Horrible hire. Yes had a stint in the NFL (did horrible), but wow.....

Ferentz-esque.

They fired Pelini because of his record against ranked opponents. Well... Riley is 4-21 against top ten and 14-41 against top 25.

Then again, perhaps this is the best Nebraska could do. After all, what "big name" coach would want to go to Lincoln when they just fired a coach who never failed to win at least 9 games every season he coached there? The Bugeaters are still convinced it's the 1980s and they should be competing for national championships every year.

Notice how all the positive reactions from this hire talk about how good of a person Riley is, not necessarily about his W/L record. It seems like a personality change from Bo was a big priority in the coaching search, somebody they can sell to the fans and donors. For that reason, I think fans might be initially happy with the hire, but if he doesn't start winning championships things could turn in a hurry.
