Is this a crazy question? I think we'll lose Mangino to a head coaching opportunity. Do we grab him before he leaves? I love CPR... but don't think he can get things done.
I think a good coach to hire would be Wells at Utah St. I believe he finished the season at 9-4. He had something like 9 starters injured and was playing his 3rd or 4th string QB.
No.
1. Mangino won't be here after next year. He'll be OC somewhere else or HC at a smaller school.
2. Craig Bohl and/or the NDSU head coach now will be available after next year.
Just give it one more year.
First off, unless Pollard has the best poker face ever and is lying about his intentions, Rhoads is back next year. Here's the interesting thing - ISU's first 5 wins are its "should win" games - UNI at home, Iowa at home, at Toledo, KU at home, at TT. If ISU goes 1-4 or 0-5 to start the season, you dismiss Rhoads on the spot and make Mangino interim to finish the season. Whether Mangino comes back as the head coach the following season largely depends on how Mangino finishes out the season (which more than likely will be terrible) and whom else is interested in the job.
All I'm saying is as much as most of us would like to see Rhoads gone now, he's going to be here at least to start next year, and we're going to find out real quick whether this season was "we're just that young" and "we're just that injured" or if the football program has just deteriorated that badly under his watch.
