Is this a crazy question? I think we'll lose Mangino to a head coaching opportunity. Do we grab him before he leaves? I love CPR... but don't think he can get things done.

Yes, it is a crazy question that's been asked a hundred times.

Don't offer him the head coaching job.

I say offer it. whats the other option another no name hire. only this time instead of starting with OK recruits this next guy has to start with CPR's recruits. at least Mangino has been here for a year and sees how much of a turd this program is and might have some ideas on fixing it.

No.

1. Mangino won't be here after next year. He'll be OC somewhere else or HC at a smaller school.

2. Craig Bohl and/or the NDSU head coach now will be available after next year.

Just give it one more year.

First off, unless Pollard has the best poker face ever and is lying about his intentions, Rhoads is back next year. Here's the interesting thing - ISU's first 5 wins are its "should win" games - UNI at home, Iowa at home, at Toledo, KU at home, at TT. If ISU goes 1-4 or 0-5 to start the season, you dismiss Rhoads on the spot and make Mangino interim to finish the season. Whether Mangino comes back as the head coach the following season largely depends on how Mangino finishes out the season (which more than likely will be terrible) and whom else is interested in the job.

All I'm saying is as much as most of us would like to see Rhoads gone now, he's going to be here at least to start next year, and we're going to find out real quick whether this season was "we're just that young" and "we're just that injured" or if the football program has just deteriorated that badly under his watch.

I think a good coach to hire would be Wells at Utah St. I believe he finished the season at 9-4. He had something like 9 starters injured and was playing his 3rd or 4th string QB.

I've said the same thing. He is someone to at least consider. Whether he is ever here, or he is somewhere else, we will hear his name louder and louder over the next few years, I think.

No. First, I'm not sold that Mangino should be the guy. I doubt he leaves. I just can't see a high profile job wanting him (although OSU plucked Herman so what do I know). He is a smart guy. He knows the pressure is on Rhoads next year and he is well-positioned to get a legit look at the job. Not saying he deserves it but being the OC gives him a leg up. If he leaves, it is because he wouldn't want to be the head coach here and wants to get out before next year's posse.

Really what makes anyone think Mangino deserves the head job either here or anywhere else? Our offense has shown flashes but it still averages less than 30 points a game. Not tely enough difference/improvement for me.

We do not want anything to do with a Bill Snyder style offense. Our strength right now is our WR our OL can't protect anyone is a huge problem a run first offense is not the answer

Unless Mangino has a plan for fixing our talent issues with the defensive front 7 quickly, his success will be no different from Rhoads.

Although CPR will be back with his make or break season, my vote would be to offer MM the job. Head coaching experience and he won were nobody else could. If we could get somebody better, great. But I don't see a proven HC coming here.
