So who could we get?

Pat Narduzzi - DC Mich State
Scott Frost - OC Oregon
Justin Fuente - HC Memphis
Jim McElwain - HC Colo State
Lance Leipold - HC Wisconsin-Whitewater

Make a play for McElwain - he would come.
Four more:
1. Joe Moglia - HC, Coastal Carolina
2. Kirby Smart - DC, Alabama
3. Chad Morris - OC, Clemson
4. Phil Montgomery - OC, Baylor

Here are a few things when I think about the current state of the ISU football program.

1. 2012 was CPRs best talent year, what would he have done in 2005 with that team. That schedule wasn't exactly stacked and they blew many games that year. Not sure that CPR team would have, in fact I think that year we were a QB away from being an 8-9 win team (that's conservative), Those of you pining for DMac don't have very good memories.

This is classic. CPR hasn't fielded to team close to that of 2005, yet you attempt to defend him by claiming he could coach it to more victories. Good god.
Then I also betcha that 2012 squad wouldn't have "mailed it in" at the Liberty Bowl and laid down to Tulsa if Mac was coaching them...

2. CPR has made the necessary coaching changes on the offensive side of the ball and it has only been 1/2 of a year since that and improvement is starting to creep in, obviously yesterday didn't show that, but the man is TRYING HARD to make ISU a winner, give him some credit for that please. He hasn't had the luxury of the easier schedule that Mac had every 2 years along with a 4th non-con game to generate some momentum.
3. How many times have we actually competed against OU? Yesterday was actually par for the course. They are an elite program with elite everything. Its no comparison between the programs. Those of you who were predicting wins almost had me inspired that we could get one. I don't like the fact we laid down however but Stoops is now 32-0 following a loss, let that sink in for a minute, I am sure that D-bag was ecstatic to see us on the schedule.
4. It may be time for Wally to hang it up. I hate saying that but we are struggling defensively new blood that can recruit D-Line and LBs with a good scheme is needed. We made Tyrone Swoops look like Cam Newton for ******'s sakes
5. We are recruiting skill positions pretty well, need help with the lines and linebackers. If we could get a good O-line, and an above average D-line we would be in business. We need about 3 more Jake Campos. Actually we need to lock down the rest of the Farnioks, fat chance I know.
6. To win at ISU we need to do something different than the big boys of the conference. We can't consistently compete in a shootout with these schools, history says they will win because they can recruit better. We NEED a strong defense and a good O-Line, look at KState, that's how they are doing it with less talent than the other schools.
7. The facility upgrades that we have made are needed and they are helping us with recruiting, but that takes time to show up on the field, at least 1 redshirt year anyway.
8. Can we please stop comparing the Criner and Walden years with the CPR years. Instead of 2 poor seasons in a row, Criner and Walden gave us a decade of ****** football big ******* difference.

This is a terrific post. Very well stated sir.

This is classic, you are defending how a coach turned a 10 win team (his prediction) into a 7 win team that played in a bowl that we never got paid for.

your man crush is sad, I hope he is a relative. I will bet you anything though when CPR was beating Okie State you were trying to credit bruiser for having him on his staff too, right?

Any up and coming coach that wants to win would be dumb to take this job. Its not a good coaching gig unless you are in it to just make money. What would make any coach look at our history and location and think he could do better than a minor bowl game every once in a while.

OK, I'll do it. I've been looking for a job where there are no expectations for success and I could make a lot of money.

And that "epic" Okie State upset has been parlayed into what exactly? That's right - nothing. You and the other Rhoads apologists trout that game out as if it were for the Big 12 title. No, it was a fluke, as we know now. Just like the '92 win over Nebraska was a fluke. In both cases, we just returned to losing.
As others have pointed out: CPR = Walden. In lots of ways.

No. Absolutely not. I'm not a supporter of Rhoads, but that's just a dumb comparison. Rhoads is considerably better than Walden.

Here are a few names I would look at whenever the time comes to look for a new head coach:
1. Willie Fritz 1st year as HC at Georgia Southern. Prior to that he was HC at Sam Houston State for 4yrs and prior to that HC at Central Missouri State for 13 yrs. He know has been the head coach in the Midwest, Texas and GA/FL all important recruiting grounds for Iowa State. All the programs he has been at he's had winning programs.
2. Bob Still HC at Colorado School of Mines. Highly regarded for his offensive mind. He is a native of Nebraska.
3. Adam Dorrel HC at NW Missouri State. Has continued NW Missouri football tradition.
4. Craig Bohl 1st year HC at Wyoming. Had multiple NC's at ND State. Prior to that was an assistant at NE.
5. Scott Frost OC at Oregon.

And the Mac apologists never point out that Mac's best teams benefited from not having to play Texas or Oklahoma... I mean c'mon, Mac's 2003 team was closer to a Walden team than this season.

I don't know if Rhoads is the guy who can turn this 117 year turd of a program around (I doubt it), but can we please stop acting like Dan McCarney was frigging Vince Lombardi reincarnated?

I wish we could find a guy that had proven head coaching experience in the big 12. A BCS win. A national championship as an offensive coordinator as well as another 11-0 season. And has a coaching pedigree from one of the greatest college football coaches of all time.

Where in the world could we find a guy like that. Probably only a pipe dream. He'd never want to be at a place like iowa state.

Mack Brown

Most of us can. To add to what you're saying, can we avoid downgrading that Okie State win. Even though it turns out that the game didn't signal a new chapter for the program, it is still the biggest win our program has ever had, and we ought to be proud of that one for a long, long time. Still the best game I've ever watched.

Most fun I have ever had watching an ISU sporting event.

Man, the more I watch our team, the more I think this is needed. I like that there has been some spice in our D lately with blitzes and what not but man something to change up our scheme and playcalling may be beneficial.

Maybe I'm just hurting after taking it up the tailpipe to the tune of 510 rushing yards. Maybe..

Who has done that - quit making stuff up. And I have never posted that Mac should have been retained. Something went wrong at the end.
But I have posted that when you fire a coach, make sure you hire someone better to replace him. And in Chizik and now CPR, Pollard hasn't done that.

Says the guy who made this completely made up comment... I have only seen one person in this thread dumb enough to make this comment.

As others have pointed out: CPR = Walden. In lots of ways.
