Fred Hoiberg said Iowa State will use Dustin Hogue the same way it used Melvin Ejim last year until Jameel McKay is eligible. 6-6 skilled 4.

Jameel McKay will give Iowa State something it hasn't had under Fred Hoiberg --- a legitimate rim protector. Reminds me of Demarre Carroll.

So much Scott Christopherson in Matt Thomas....

Early prediction on Iowa State starting five --- Monte Morris, Bryce Dejean-Jones, Dustin Hogue, Georges Niang, Jameel McKay....

The guy that's really impressive for Iowa State? Abdel Nader. 6-7 with a 7-3 wingspan. Has some Nicholas Batum in his game. Versatile.

Georgios Tslampouris has a long ways to go physically but he can immediately help Iowa State with his shooting. 7-1. Pick and pop 5 man.

Fred Hoiberg is the most relaxed coach I've ever seen in a college practice. Doesn't yell - just instructs. Feels like an NBA training camp.

Biggest question I have for Iowa State --- who is the closer? Cyclones were great last year in close games bc of DeAndre Kane.

Sounds like it will be the ballz to the rack and Hogue will be cleaning up the misses.

He was good until the last tweet. That is just factually incorrect. Niang was the closer, until he was hurt and Kane stepped up against UNC.

I agree, but he does a damn good job considering he is covering all of college basketball and not just ISU or even the BIG 12.

This exactly what I thought. Last year Georges owned the coffee pot.

Was going to post the same thing. Niang was our late in game ball handler and playmaker. Niang is who we will go to when we need a bucket, Monte will close games when we are in the lead, he is to good at the FT stripe not to.

Someone send these comments to Diallo with the one about a Hoiberg-coached practice like a NBA training camp circled. I would do it but I am an old guy and this is beyond my skill set.

Obviously this is true, but I get where he's coming from. There were a lot of times were ISU needed something to happen and Kane would just bull his way to either a bucket or free throws.

And it would make me so happy if we saw a little Thug Life in Matt this season.

Changing the offense?? It was a thing of beauty last year. Don't mess with success, Fred!

Actually, do whatever you want cuz you're a genius and you **** excellence.

He calls McKay a legitimate rim protector, and then compares him to DeMarre Carroll, who had a career Block percentage of less than 2.0%. Georges Niang and Marcus Smart - neither of whom are anything close to a rim protector - both had a higher block rate last year than Carroll's career rate.

That's just a dumb and lazy comparison. He wrote down the first tall black guy with dreadlocks he could think of.

I'll give him some time. It took Scotty some time to become Thuglife. Matt is still just a true sophomore...give him time.

The next time that Fred goes in back to back seasons without changing the offense will be the first time. Fred doesn't have a system in which he fits players, he builds a system that fits the players he has.
