***Official ISU/KSU Postgame Thread***

they looked a lot better than last week. Yes, it isn't any fun to lose another game but I for one saw enough improvement in the team that I am cautiously optimistic enough to buy the hope that we are being offered.

A brilliant move by CPR these last two years. Start off so horrible that reasonably competent effort is a cause for hope.

This is looking so much like last year. There will be blowouts and in the other gamed I look forward to what basic play we **** up when the game is on the line. Oh, and sprinkle in some game-changing, bs calls.

Why does everyone say this?

I'm not convinced Sam is THE guy. But today wasn't really on him AT ALL. He missed that last play and didn't get it out on the blitz, and he air mailed his first pass. But I'm not finding much more that was all that bad.

He played almost perfectly today, I don't know what more you guys want out of him.....

He didn't get much help from his receivers today at clutch time. He had a couple of bad passes, but there was the oddball takeaway on Jarvis and 2 drops in each half. He was very good today running as well. Sam wasn't the problem, IMO.

Great effort today. I sure hope that the fanbase's patience pays off with some wins sooner than later, but if we're going to spend a week running down the coaches and players after a bad game then they deserve credit for battling today.
Quick takeaways -

Short yardage situations - Are we sure Woody doesn't have any eligibility left? Yeesh. Maybe Mangino's got a Belldozer-like package for Lanning?
The safeties - Cotton Moya and Mutcherson brought the lumber today. Big future for those two.
Lazard and Campos - The highly touted in state recruits are as good as advertised so far. Campos held his own without much help and Lazard is making plays as a true freshman.
Jevohn Miller to MIKE - I thought he was a little better at MLB today, but too many times every game I see him in position to make a play and the guy is just unable to make the tackle. He's a high effort guy and I appreciate the time he's put in, but if middle linebacker is going to be a weakness either way then I guess I'd rather see Meeks out there taking his lumps and getting reps.
Sam E. Richardson - Scrappy. Penalty prone but he's a pit bull.
Paul Rhoads - Give the guy credit; his team played their ***** off today and didn't quit on him. I don't know if he is the guy to lead the program into the future, but I want him to be. Let's hope the progress we saw today translate to wins in the very near future so it's a moot point in January.

1 ******* YARD. 1 ******* YARD. THIS WHOLE GAME CAME DOWN TO 1 ******* YARD.

Ouch. Would think I would be used to it by now but getting booted in the junk still hurts like hell. Disappointed like I was last week but in a completely different way.

I'll still be a moody ***** for the rest of the day but deep down, there's a lot of hope and pride for this team. After getting embarrassed last week and the way this one started, it would have been real easy to tuck their tails and hope to keep it within 50. Instead we reached between our legs, found our manhood, and fought like hell against a damn good football team.

This was definitely one we could have and probably should have won and it sucks to basically give it away. On the other hand, I came into this one fully expecting to see the same dog **** effort we saw against NDSU. Losing sucks no matter how you slice it but I'd much rather go down fighting like we did today.

I'm sure plenty of you will give me **** about moral victories and I'm fine with that. If you can't be happy with the improvement and complete 180 in attitude between last week and today, your opinion means nothing to me. Most of you negative nancies have proven over and over that you know next to nothing about football but I'm sure you'll keep shootin off regardless of how stupid you sound.

I really should end this positively and look ahead so I'll go with one of my favorite all time quotes............**** THE HAWKS!!!!!!

Not saying I've given up on Sam, but someone needs to step up and make a play. I can't think of a time that's happened with Sam as QB. May not be his fault, but a good leader can sometimes help those difference makers to emerge when the game is on the line.

But as I said before, hopefully more experience with the offense does the trick.

Do you want him to throw to himself? He made big plays today with his legs.

I'd like him to read an obvious corner blitz and get the ball out of his hand on fourth down to the outside so that we get a first down and continue our last min drive.

Is that too much?

I think right now Sam is a somewhat limited QB who is most valuable to the team when he can play a clean game and move the chains with his legs. Maybe with more reps he becomes a more dynamic player, but the important thing for now is that he continues to build on the positives. For the most part he was accurate, decisive, and didn't turn the ball over except for that fluky INT. If West catches that pass on 3rd and 5 at the end of the game then maybe we're all talking about how composed Sam was on that game winning drive. That's football.

If he would just help his line make the blocks, and then catch the ball for his WRs, maybe some would appreciate his play. Probably not until he also makes plays for the defense too.

Have heard some people questioning the defense today. My thoughts:

A- I didn't expect **** from the defense today and they FAR exceeded my expectations

B- you cant drop a goose egg on offense against the fighting bill snyder's in the 2nd half

C- we all knew the offense was going to have to carry this team this year.

I actually thought Sam played well today, at least overall he was "ok". I find it really crazy that he has yet to win a game he has started in. He just can't get over that hump. If he (or ANYONE for that matter) makes ONE MORE PLAY today, we win. But they didn't. Is that on Sam? I don't think so, but it is still odd that after all the games he's started, he has won one of them.

I honestly feel bad for him because worse QB's have won games they've started just by sheer accident and luck...

Yes, but so were some of the throws he made that weren't caught. Jarvis could have prevented that from even happening.

i agree he put that ball in a place where Jarvis should have caught that ball. But....the QB needs to be composed on every play, ESPECIALLY on 4th down on a last min drive. I think situational awareness is the main attribute that Sam is missing, I hope that he can learn from these experiences and not let them happen again.

For the most part, Sam made great decisions and was very accurate today.
