Big 12 POY

KenPom's list, for what it's worth:

Big 12 Conference
all-kenpom.com
RankPlayer
1Andrew Wiggins, Kansas
2Joel Embiid, Kansas
3Marcus Smart, Oklahoma St.
4DeAndre Kane, Iowa St.
5Perry Ellis, Kansas

I know this looks pretty silly, but since he relies on rate-based stats, I don't think that his formula would account for the games Smart and Embiid missed. It may be doing the calculation like Smart and Embiid played the entire B12 season.

Also, I don't know if he treats defense as equal to offense, but he uses Dean Olivier's Stops rating to determine defensive value, and I think Wiggins and Embiid have an advantage there.

It's also worth noting it's a POY award, not a MVP.

Wiggins doesn't deserve the award. But since it's Kansas and the big twelve has to take care of those ******** he will win.

So Lebron James averages 27.2 PPG, 57.7% FG, 6.9 RPG, 6.4 APG because he's on a team with "zero good players"? Chris Bosh (all-star), Dwayne Wade (all-star), Mario Chalmers, Shane Battier, and Ray Allen don't "pitch in"? Few would argue Lebron James is the "worst choice" for MVP.

What are you talking about? How did you get from Foster, who plays on a team barren of talent at KSU so puts up mega numbers, to James, who plays with a ton of all stars and is subsequently posting his lowest scoring totals of his career? In essence, you make my point for me which is that don't let the number alone fool you. Durant scores more than James last year but James impacts the game more at both ends of the floor = James MVP.

Is that why Kansas has only had Big 12 POY three times in the last 10 years and it took being an All American to do it each time? Wayne Simien (1st team All American 2005), Marcus Morris (2nd team All American 2011) and Thomas Robinson (1st team All American 2012) are the only players to win Big 12 POY in the Bill Self era despite winning the conference each of the previous 9 seasons. Yeah, they are really getting big favoritism in that vote...

Winning the award 3 of the last 10 years in a 10 to 12 team league is above the expected rate.

I agree Ice Cube! Melvin should get it! It's ****ed up!!

What a joke...

Kane and Ejim are losing the award the first half. Melvin has been off for a few games except for one. Georges is playing better defense than offense. Kane is now our best three shooter.

If Ejim had 20+ today I thought he had an outside shot, but with Wiggins' 41 today, I agree that he wrapped it up.

Ejim/Kane finish 2/3.

I agree Wiggins probably wrapped it up with a fantastic game today. KU is probably the only team in the league that could come back from 25 down on the road and make the other team sweat in the final minute.

Although, Kane did have one heck of a game today. Ejim had some bad games to finish the year but I still think he and Kane deserve to be on the first team all-conference.
