Student Section

I say they sell as many student tickets that students buy. Never sell out and get as much money from students that like to waste their money as they can.

They hold up the signs that tell us which way to wave our arms on opponent free throws.

Took some pictures of the line for the Michigan game.

They're pretty legit.

Totally deserve those reserved front row seats.

It's really cool actually. Wave our arms like crazy and throw them to the right after the ball is in the air. Then they get really crazy when they do it to the left after the second shot. So awesome.

I'm glad I'm not a student anymore. Now I can complain to the students who go to the games about the students who don't go to the games. Perfect logic. Mwhahahaha.

I'm talking about others who weren't able to get tickets.

I don't really get how you can disagree with what people are saying. It isn't what I think the reasons are it is what I have gathered as a student talking to people.

I don't doubt at all that they gave you an excuse instead of just saying I'd rather not attend a top 25 match up.

Look at this a different way maybe. Has the attendance in the student section been out of the ordinary or more of a norm to the rest of the season? Then ask yourself the same question about the Kansas, Iowa, and Michigan games. The reason for students going back to attending games like they did before these games isn't because they got angry. Its because those games are some of the biggest annual events in Iowa and attract the most marginal of fans.

True, but you would be surprised how many people read this website. Willing to bet there are students that don't show up that see this.

Apparently it's our job to track down all the students skipping games, grab them by the ear, and drag them into Hilton.

OKAY.

Nope. Just sell tickets next y to people who use them. This problem is really easy to solve.

If kids don't show up for a top 20 match up for a 19-5 team after two NCAA tourny seasons of exciting hoops... its never happening.

If students really are worried about being turned away we have some lazy or stupid students

Everyone thinks our students who show are one of the top 4 sections in the big 12. You guys are great.

That curly haired girl has become a minor celebrity for better or worse.

Its more that people on here want those seats... not necessarily wanting students to go... to me this is more about next yr. The ship has sailed on this yr.

YOU DONT GET THE POINT!!! IF EVERYONE SHOWS UP THERE ARENT SEATS LEFT. SOMEONE HAS TO BE LEFT OUTSIDE IF THE SEATS ARE GOING TO BE FULL.

Nobody has had to wait in line except for Kansas, Iowa, and Michigan if they didn't want to. Why do people not get this? I have not waited outside since the Kansas game and I am always in the parquet.

If you want Hilton to be attended the same as those games, the line and wait would have to be just as long.

This argument is pointless. The people complaining about the student section offer no alternatives, they are just saying "students need to show up they are a bunch of wimps! When I was a student we walked 10 miles barefoot through 4 feet of snow and then built igloos outside of Hilton to camp in"

Here is the alternative: Make it like it was when I was in school, 1995-2000.

You have a random assignment of seats. You have 1/3 of the games with awesome seats, 1/3 with decent seats, and 1/3 with very high seats. Yes, you don't oversell, but you also get the folks that want to go.

Also, no more football/basketball combined sales. Basketball only.

I don't think this would be popular with current season ticket holders. But I do like the idea of making Alley attendance contingent upon the specific game. Probably can keep it where it currently is

The athletics department has tried plenty to get students to the games, from discounted tickets to overselling and outright shaming. Students are the ones who have not responded. Maybe there just isn't enough kids interested in ISU basketball to justify a student section that size. Your student fan base is not those that show for a home game against KU or Iowa. It's what you draw for a mid week game against TCU or Arkansas Pine Bluff.

ISU probably needs to find a mechanism to allow students who only care about big games to access them and get butts in the seats for the rest. There is plenty of demand for Cyclone Basketball for people who aren't students.

That was a lottery system that prioritized upperclassmen IIRC as well, where many more applied than got tickets. Instead of missing one or two select games because of a line, students didn't get basketball tickets at all if they weren't drawn.

Other than overselling the athletic department hasn't done much. They get people excited enough to buy but Texas was the first game I really saw anything that I didn't search out. Last night's women's game (which I guess was away so that is part of it, but it is similar for even home games) I would have totally forgotten, but I have the schedules in iCal on my phone.

They can't make people go just by bombarding people but just like advertising it puts the thought in the back of your mind.

I actually thought the non conference was really good. Even against the awful schools the student section was decently full. It wasn't as good as I'd like, but I remember it being better than Texas. Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but there definitely seemed to be a lot more excitement about basketball last semester.
