Technical-ity

After last nights meltdown by Fran I wanted to get thoughts on working the officials. I do believe that almost 100% of the time, once a technical is called one of 2 things happen. 1. Either there is a quick technical on the opposing side as a make-up call. Or 2., officials think about it and then overcompensate the other way. I think Bill Self is a master of this. Guaranteed he will come to Ames and get a technical within the first 10 minutes of the game and then receive more favorable calls the remaining 30 minutes.

Fred of course does not do this and sometimes I think it is a detriment. But after at least 2 debacles last year, I actually believe the officials appreciate the way Fred handled those situations and may cut us more breaks then normal this year. (I hope).

I don't want to compare what Fran did, as that was idiotic. I don't think a coach should ever get a technical while leading in the second half. However, any thoughts on whether Fred should be working the officials more early in the game?

Bottom line, working the officials and getting one T may be effective (home or away).

But getting two T's and getting tossed on the road while ahead is ridiculously stupid. Fran pretty much lost that game for Iowa. They still may not have pulled it out, but his actions were moronic given the situation.

I'm actually growing sick of Coaches like Bo Ryan, Bill Self, Mad Fran, and Tom Izzo who think they are above the game and can act with no civility against these officials for 40 straight minutes. Its almost getting to the point where they do it so much it takes a Flying Fran body check to actually get their attention and call a T. They look like total morons in public and set a terrible example for players of all ages.

Hey at least 3 of those coaches win

I'm getting old, so I might be missing something, but two things I don't ever remember seeing happen:
1. Refs having a "make-up" technical foul on the other coach
2. A team come back and win from being behind after their coach gets ejected. Now last night Fran's team was actually winning when he headed to the lockerroom.

I'm more curious if anyone remembers #2 happening.

Contrary to popular belief, there is no such thing as a MAKE UP CALL!

IIRC, Tim Floyd got tossed in a Big 8 tournament game and ISU came back and won.
