After last nights meltdown by Fran I wanted to get thoughts on working the officials. I do believe that almost 100% of the time, once a technical is called one of 2 things happen. 1. Either there is a quick technical on the opposing side as a make-up call. Or 2., officials think about it and then overcompensate the other way. I think Bill Self is a master of this. Guaranteed he will come to Ames and get a technical within the first 10 minutes of the game and then receive more favorable calls the remaining 30 minutes.
Fred of course does not do this and sometimes I think it is a detriment. But after at least 2 debacles last year, I actually believe the officials appreciate the way Fred handled those situations and may cut us more breaks then normal this year. (I hope).
I don't want to compare what Fran did, as that was idiotic. I don't think a coach should ever get a technical while leading in the second half. However, any thoughts on whether Fred should be working the officials more early in the game?
