This has me a little worried..... especially with Mister and Syria as early RB commits, we need someone to keep those 2 solid commits....
IMO those commits are coming to play for CPR and ISU not Kennith Pope. CPR is the glue for our commits not Messingham or Pope.
Would have been even better if Brun had been able to contribute more. Too bad for Brun, but his injury kept Bibbs on the field more.
Exactly my thoughts. We have some nice talent in the backfield, as a whole they underperformed but think that was more to plays\scheming than their talent or heart.

Do I think Rhoad's can still keep the boat a float and not lose recruits, yes.
Do I think that losing one of the better recruiting positions coaches could have negative impact in the future, yes.
I am not saying keeping these guys on the board can't be done, I am just saying don't be surprised if this move get a little push back in the next coming weeks.

The possibility of a new and more potent offense might be a plus for them as well.

Sure there might be some push back. At the same time, we don't know who the new RB coach might be. Quite possible he might be a better recruiter and a better coach as well. If CPR didn't think a replacement would be an improvement then I doubt that a change would have been made.
Inexplicable gameday rotations, ball security issues, headscratching incongruity with down and distance and onfield player. Those coupled with questionable depth chart/roster management made Pope really vulnerable IMO. The position was massively mismanaged this year and clearly underperformed, to the point that I questioned what coaches were seeing when they look at our RB play.
Since the CPR regime started, only Bleil Is left of the offensive staff. Everyone else has left "voluntarily" or fired.
BTW, can we get a mod to change the title thread? I logged in this AM and it was the first I heard of the news. Since it was "Mess fired! And Pope" it was a bit underwhelming!

This has virtually nothing to do with it. The RB's coach position on nearly every squad is for a recruiter. Pope recruits Texas, specifically Dallas and has underperformed recruiting wise for what should be the team's best or second best recruiter.
I guess you and I will just need to agree to disagree on that I think. Every coach has a recruiting territory, but I'm not on board with you about the things I mentioned having nothing to do with his firing. If that was true, than those things don't matter in during the week coaching and what happens on gameday. They clearly do matter, so I think we're at odds with our opinions here.

That's what I was wondering, what does the RB coach do? Does he decide which RB takes which snap? Is he the one to decides to take a RB out just as he's getting hot and put in a cold one? Does he pick the starter?
It could be that Pope was told that he would not be a candidate for the position of OC once Mess left, and wasn't really thrilled to be in a, for all intents and purposes, dead end career stop.
My understanding is that for the most part, the position coaches decide who goes into the game. And it is somewhat separate from the play-calling done by the OC. This may be why Woody sometimes gets the ball on plays where he probably shouldn't have it.
See I don't get why everone was upset with that. All season long I have been reading that our offense is predictable and never does anything with misdirection. Then we run a reverse and everyone *******. I liked the play call, but the defense made a great play to stop it.
The problem isn't as much play-calling as play design and execution within an offensive scheme. How many times have we called a swing pass and thrown the ball to someone 4 yards behind the line of scrimmage with not a soul to block for him. The play call wasn't the problem; the execution was. An OC has 11 chess pieces on the board, all of whom have specific abilities and talent levels. His job is to get those chess pieces into arrangements where they can play with in their talent and skill levels to accomplish an objective. Too often under Rhoads the plays seemed to be pulled out of a hat, and players were put into situations where they had to try to make plays they lacked the ability or the coaching to make. Against Ohio State, Michigan was totally out-manned, but on offense, their coaches kept getting them in situations where they could make plays.
