Sage Rosenfels

Love the Iowa State fans doubting Sage Rosenfels OC ability because he was a mediocre NFL quarterback.

Probably the same Iowa State fans who doubted Fred Hoibergs coaching ability because he was a mediocre NBA player.

I think there's a difference between the two situtations. I'd have no issue with Sage being a QB's coach but directly to OC would be a bad idea.

I will give him the positive of spending his adult life learning the offense of several NFL teams. Does that translate to utilizing it to develop a game plan and in-game adjustments?

I'll go with an unproven guy like Sage a guy who has proved that all he can do is fail.

As long as he brings the Helicopter with him, I think we should hire him.

Why does everyone think a mediocre NFL quarterback is going to come in and solve our OC problems. I love Sage, but he has not coached anything yet. This is no where near a Hoiberg hire. Not even comparable. Needs to work his way up the ranks.
If you think Sage was a mediocre NFL QB then what the hell was Kliff Kingsbury? Some guys just make better coaches than players...

Wait, what? So Sage as a mediocre NFL QB can't do it, but Fred as a mediocre NBA shooting guard can?

Nothing is certain, but I'd go as far as calling it "quite likely" that a guy who was a QB in the NFL the past 12 years who wanted the job badly would be better at calling plays and coaching qb than what we've seen lately.

Being an assistant is much harder than being...head coach? In terms of calling plays and coaching QBs, I'd think any highly motivated veteran NFL qb could be a possible massive leap forward.

Wow... Fred had experience running a program in Minnesota. He sat under assistant coaches. They are not similar.

Would be OK with as a QB coach, but much better proven OCs out there. Why not hire Ellis Hobbs as defensive coordinator too while were at it.

Sage is a very smart man and has been around football for a long time. I won't be upset if Rhoads gives him an opportunity at OC.

Hold on Cowboy. This is not a Training position, the OC position. Hire someone who can coach and recruit. Hire Sage as QB coach and prep him to call plays one day, but not right now.

Position coach, but according to another poster Sage has said not so good things about CPR and players not liking him.

I love Sage as much as the next Cyclone, but what has he done to earn an OC position at a BCS level school?

QB coach? Sure. OC? No way...at least not right away.
