Sage Rosenfels

To hire Sage right now as OC would require our head coach to be a skilled Offensive leader in his own right, since he would have to mentor Sage. Rhoads is not such a head coach. (He in fact needs a to hire a senior OC to mentor him).

If we hire a new OC, Sage falls into the universe of "A guy who has been involved in football who could maybe, possibly be better than Mess but we don't know for sure because they never really had a job like this". That universe is probably 100,000 people. If we hire a new OC the job description needs to be "A guy with a proven record of success as a college football coach with a demonstrated ability to develop players and win against top caliber competition". That universe is probably about 25 guys and Sage isn't one of them.

This thread seems desperate. We think a mediocre NFL player will come in and save our offense just because it worked with Hoiberg. I'm not doubting Sage and his ability to understand effective offenses but Rhoads has already had a mulligan with Messingham. We need someone with some experience coaching. I think its quite different with basketball knowing how to get 5 players to mesh well compared to 11 players and then reading defenses and making in game adjustments.

I'd be all for Rosenfels coming in as a QB coach though. I cannot wait till Messingham is fired and unemployed and pray for whoever gets him next. Worthless piece of crap.

I like Sage and think he could add some value to the staff but what troubles me is a good friend of mine here in Omaha is good friends with him and he told me that Sage has been saying not so good things about CPR and his relationships with the players. I was shocked as I have absolutely never heard anything remotely close to this from any other source. I trust my source and it is disappointing if Sage is making those comments.

Surprised nobody has jumped all over you for this post.

Just curious, has Sage been on the sideline for an ISU game this year? In searching on Cyclones.tv (hopefully the search function is working), there haven't been any features on or interviews with Sage for a couple of years...

Seems like you want to say something. While many will take it as sour grapes, I'd be interested.

Hire an OC with no coaching experience and I think you could kiss all of your existing offensive position coaches good-bye.
