Iowa new transfer?

The numbers don't lie. For Jok to shoot over 90% from the line and 40% from downtown, with the volume of shots he takes, is the mark of a great shooter. Thomas is undoubtedly good, but he is no Peter Jok.

Thomas also shot 48% from downtown last year in the AAU circuit against the best competition in the country. Is it safe to say we can assume that competition is better than the CIML?

I will agree with the last part considering Matt Thomas didn't decide between ISU and Drake as his only offers it's safe to say they aren't on the same planet talent wise.

Jok is a lot better than some are giving him credit for on here. If he wouldn't have been off the national stage for so long I think he would have been rated higher.
And the best shooter in the class is Frankamp.

Yeah, that wasn't a great analogy on a few levels.

Royce White and Chris Allen were highly recruited out of high school so the talent was there. Babb was recruited way more than Jok was and had proven he could play at the college level. How you can put a kid that had no BCS offers in the same sentence as those 3 doesn't really make any sense to me. When those 3 players became available to Iowa State they weren't fighting off Drake to get them...

I'm guessing Thomas got to play off the ball a lot more in aau than he did for his highschool which is why I don't really put to much into his three point percentage for his last year. Ill be shocked if he doesn't shoot above 40% from three this year. I think he's going to make it rain from the corners in the transition offense. I'm excited!

It's a bad analogy because Jok would have been similarly rated to Royce if he hadn't blown out his knee.

That's questionable. Only thing I've ever seen saying Jok was a top recruit was from a questionable at best source 4 years ago. If there is something better out there you can show me.

NY2LASPORTS.COM - NEW TOP 100 CLASS OF 2013 PLAYER RANKINGS

(His #4 guy was rated behind Thomas and Morris in Rivals rankings this year).

Either way none of the 3 guys listed were a liability due to injury. All 3 of those guys had proven talent the moment they stepped in the door. If that was the case with Jok I would like to think at least UNI/Creighton/etc would have offered him.

he was the #10 ranked h.s. freshman, considered the best high school sophomore.

You're google skills are better than mine! I don't even feel like I'm being biased when I say I don't see him doing much at the college level considering I think Uthoff will be a great player for Iowa. People act like Fran landed this diamond in the rough but yet Jok was his fallback after Hogue told Fran no so I just don't see it. Maybe he'll surprise me but for someone to hint at him being better than Matt Thomas is just laughable

In that article here are the players he lists with Jok. Being great as a freshman doesn't always equal great as a senior.

It's very rare the Hoops Report talks much about out-of-state players, but in this case it's hard not to after so much attention has been paid to the terrific Class of 2013 trio ofWhitney Young's Tommy Hamilton, Simeon's Jabari Parker and De La Salle's Alex Foster out of Chicago. As talented as the trio of Hamilton, Parker and Foster are, Jok is better. And that's saying an awful lot. Of course we're talking about kids just out of 8th grade, so a lot will change over the next four years. It's still difficult sometimes to talk -- and praise -- players this young. But it's the nature of the recruiting business as we have seen over the last few years.

Jok - Iowa 3 star NR
Tommy Hamilton - Depaul 3 star NR
Jabari Parker - Duke 5 star #4
Alex Foster - Texas Tech 3 star NR

You keep ignoring the fact that he had a catastrophic knee injury, which changed his trajectory. I agree now he won't do much, but pre knee injury he would have been someone the big boys salivated over. That's why he had like 5 offers.

Exactly, he already had the big names interested in him. It's why he was at then NBA top 100 camp before his senior year because of his earlier play before the injury. Espn once had him as the #18 player in the country before his sophomore season. Then he got injured.

I'm not ignoring that I'm saying players like Royce had the big boys salivating when he was 19 not 14 and had no injuries so comparing them doesn't make sense IMO

Hard to believe that all the slimeball/hustler BB coaches across this country whiffed on a guy playing in a big city like Des Moines.

I could see Jok being Iowa's perimeter threat for years to come. You watch his highlights and it's obvious that he isn't a threat to be a slasher. His athletic prowess isn't there anymore (At least for the time being) as all he does is shoot jumpers/threes. I am willing to bet his defense is subpar as well. Time will tell on Jok but if Iowa fans think he see's the floor next year beyond garbage minutes or think he will be better than Thomas, they are delusional.

I'm aware of all of that. I was pointing out comparing him to someone like Royce White/Chris Allen/Chris Babb makes zero sense considering the amount of talent they had coming into ISU was never in question like it is with Jok right now. Everyone knew those guys were very good coming into Ames, people know Jok used to be good and hope he can get back to that form at some point in Iowa City. Two completely different things.

All I said was that it was a risk/reward situation, and all of these guys have some issue that makes or made them a risk. I didn't get into magnitudes of risk and reward in my original post, which is really what you are disagreeing with.
