New Big 12 logo

My first "knee jerk" reaction: The shape reminds me of the Texas logo and teh color reminds me of OU...

If it is anything like the BI6 or the Pac 12, there should be variations on the logo branding per team. That is one of the reasons to simplify the design...so that it can be used ubiquitously across all conference members' marketing schemes. The BI6 has a white solid/outline version that goes on the field and the primary school color version of that for their basketball courts, and the Pac-12 has a similar all-white version, and this:

Good idea -- I didn't realize Pac-10 did that.

I have a feeling Big 12 didn't get that creative. Hope I'm wrong, though.

Will that be the case with the new logo? (honest question...since I'm not sure why we never painted the old logo. My guess would have been that it was too minutely detailed to paint and maintain.)
I think we might now. I think we kept from doing it because of conference uncertainty.

First thing that popped into my mind.

I don't mind the logo at all. It's just a logo after all. Compare it to other conference logo's.

My only beef with it is the word "conference" is unneeded and the double reference to 12 (done differently) leaves a confusion but is clearer than the old brand (visually was Big XII but wanted Big 12 used when describing in text but didnt jive with the Brand). All in all though thats why they had the Big 12 seperate in red and distinguised from the logo so an improvement. I would of done just BIG 12 (no roman numerals) like a "cattle brand" but maybe they couldnt get that to work visually as the roman numerals look more like a cattle brand.

I do like the "Cattle Brand" look to it as it does tie in to our shared identity of the plains and agriculture with out changing our name.

All in all I like it...and think it will be rememberable and identify us positively with our shared identity and does give the feeling of permanence (which we need) like a cattle brand that is for life.

For those of us who are visual people, and since we didn't get a glimpse of any variations today, I took the liberty of doing some hack photoshop work on the logo with a few teams (you're welcome, Big 12 marketing):

You can really start to see the brilliant simplicity that they were going for. Although, they could have designed something that looked a little different than the FAU or Tapout logo and still kept the simplicity. But, I'm starting to like it more and more with the different variations.

Edit: Added the other teams. These are all from the schools RGB's

The first thing I noticed was the two arrows pointing inward in the "X". Not sure if it was intentional but to me it seems to imply "solidarity" among the conference members.

Or it is pointing out that there are 10 members. Like how the Big 10 has disguised their membership number in previous logos.

Some of you are smoking the ganja if you think it looks anything like the UT Longhorn logo. Good lord.

Not necessarily the logo as much of the feel of the state of texas imo. I think that is because of the curvature like a cattle brand much like the texas logo does. I think that while identified with texas it works for the entire conference has a very ranch or cowboy feel to it.

new logo is fine. clean, crisp, simple, and clear message. that's what you expect of a logo.

Which would be what, exactly? In roman numerals XII = 12. There are ten teams in our league so I'm getting the message that either the number of teams in the league is not clear or Bob Bowlsby can't count...
