Iowa new transfer?

Vitale did not say they were a top 25 team. Liar.

**** Vitale's Preseason Top 40 for 2013-14 - ESPN

My apologies. I was referring to Vitale's tweet calling Iowa a "dark horse team." He has mentioned multiple times in tweets and interviews that he expects Iowa to be an NCAA tournament team.

Are you aware that through coaching, maturation, and hard work and determination, high school players can actually improve upon the abilities they had in high school?

I am. Are you aware that none of the players Fran has coached thus far have demonstrated this type of improvement?

Would you call a guard who averaged 15, 4, and 3 "slightly above average"? If so, Clyburn was also a slightly above average basketball player at Iowa State last season.

You're right! Since Clyburn and Marble played comparable schedules, or in the same league, it is extremely fair to compare their season averages. Oh wait, no they didn't!

Maybe instead we should compare them against a common opponent, say Ohio State.

Marble: 30 min, 8 pts, 3 rbs, 2 assists, 2-11 FGs, 3-6 FTs.
Clyburn: 39 min, 17 pts, 4 rbs, 2 assists, 6-17 FGs, 4-4 FTs.

I suppose you'd still take Marble?

The NCAA is relying less and less on the RPI to formulate their decisions, and that has been well documented by both journalists and members of the NCAA committee. It would not surprise me if the RPI is completely dropped from consideration in the next couple years.

Again, that has little to do with how good a player is. After all, Nebraska's 2011 Mr. Basketball was more highly rated than Michigan's 2012 Mr. Basketball.

`Nebraska high school basketball is HORRID.....

`RPI does matter, unless you're the 2011-2012 Iowa mbb team who 'bought' their way into the NIT after Barta flashed $$$ to the committee--- despite an RPI around #105

~ Niang, Hogue, and 2-3 others selected ISU over Iowa. Fred is like 5-0 against Fran straight up

~ It's tough to overcome a Hawk fan from birth with a tavernhawk Dad.....i.e., Adam Woodbury. LMAO. McCabe....Gesell......Uthoff. Fran spent a whopping $58 in gas recruiting those four. They spilled into his lap. It didn't matter who the mbb coach was. They were brainwashed Floppeyes from birth

I didnt think Iowa beat a team that was ranked at the time last year... am I missing something? Im not sure why they think they were better?? I guess they had about 5 more wins vs average teams than normal, but I didnt realized they beat anyone worth a crap.

For starters, Mike Gesell received a "92" scout's grade from ESPN, while Monte Morris received an "84". I am aware that is only one example from a rather vast expanse of recruiting websites, but it is a relevant example nonetheless.

Dear Expert,
ESPN updated their rankings system between those years, so you're going to be disappointed with your incoming recruits grades from now on. You're doing great with several arguments at once though.

Sincerely,
Management

Hence Peter Jok being a 75

What you fail to realize is that a team consisting of mainly white players and average to above average athletes can still be a good team. For example, Devyn Marble is a slightly above average athlete, but he is a much better than a slightly above average player. To pigeonhole all Iowa's players as average simply because they don't look a certain way or don't jump high enough for you shows an extreme lack of basketball knowledge. If you think Iowa is a "bubble team at best," I have some oceanfront property in Wyoming that I'd like to sell you.

So a harder conference schedule without addressing the main problem of a lack of athleticism means that all of a sudden the hawks are gonna be a top team.

Does this also mean that fran will stop ******** the bed on the sidelines too?

By this logic I guess Iowa State wasn't worth a crap.

Olaseni's stats are hilariously close. You understand variability, right?

Marble's stats: play more minutes, take more shots, score more points? You don't say?!?!?

Iowa's main problem was not a lack of athleticism, it was a lack of perimeter shooting.

IIRC Uthoff chose to pay for his own schooling at Iowa for one year over a scholarship offer from Mr. Fred Hoiberg.

Yeah, that's what I saw in the Baylor game, too. Iowa just couldn't hit those 3s. That really mattered when Baylor was dunking at will.

Giving marble the ball letting him shoot more because you have NO-ONE THAT CAN CREATE ON OFFENSE, isn't really coaching.

Also, if olesani has gotten so much better, why is that dirty player mccabe in there at the end?

How do you get schooled on the sidelines by Tim miles if you a coaching genius?

If Marble's improved statistics are only attributed to more minutes and more shots, then very, very few players throughout college basketball improve year to year. They keep the same skill set, yet have increased opportunity. That is essentially the argument you are making. I challenge you to find me a half dozen players who have increased their percentages and per game averages while taking less shots than the previous year and playing fewer minutes. Go!
