Extra Love for Pollard

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't JP do all of this (and do it damn well I might add) and at the same time still have a pretty ill son?

Yes its such a heartbreaking thing, I am a parent and cant even fathom what him and his family are going through.

Yeah he does!

Jamie Pollard‏@IASTATEAD James is out of surgery and is in the recovery room. Need to wait on results of pathology for next steps. Thanks for the prayers.

I think JP is by far the most important person in the AD department. While Fred and Paul are huge, having (keeping) Jamie is my biggest concern because as long as we have him on our side we will be in good hands. I'd like to see ISU reward him handsomely. Show him the respect now in hopes that he doesn't even entertain other offers because this becomes his home(if not already). We have the makings of something great right now. He we keep JP and then support him in his quest to keep the momentum (by keeping Fred & Paul in the near term) ISU will be the strongest AD in the Midwest. Iowa (already has) taken a back seat and as long as we keep JP and his core intact it will remain this way for the next 10-15 years.

Former Pres. Geoffery and Pollard are 2 of the best things to happen to ISU in a long long time.

Pollard said early on "he's a builder, not a maintainer". Meaning he's not going to be here forever, but he'll be here until he can build no more. That wont be for a while.

Look at what Pollard put together....Paul, Freddy, Fennely, Johnson-Lynch.....This guy is a genius!!!

Let's be fair- also McDermott and The Chiz, who were not good fits. So he has not been perfect, but I think he's learned from mistakes and you can't ask for much more than that. I hope he stays around a while.

I was impressed by how he latched on and lobbied to the Liberty Bowl. No one was really talking about it, just moaning about Shreveport if we missed the HoD (including me). He saw it, recognized the advantages for ISU, and sold the bowl on those advantages. Well done.

I don't know how long we can hold him... But his impact today has been tremendous. I am so thankful for what he has done... Only loss was Cael...and I don't know what he coulda done there. Maybe he can take on University President after Laeth.... Or Governor? :jimlad:

Mayor?

I'm going to address the elephant in the room and ask if we lose to Tulsa in the LB does JP go work for them? :jimlad:

I don't think that is what he was talking about. I think he was saying that he is never satisfied and always wants to improve the athletic department. No college is ever "done building" there is always stuff to be done if you have the money.

Chizik, McDermott, Sanderson, Jackson.

WOW, way to put a damper on the post, JP had not much into Cael, Jackson is well respected and liked, Cael took everything or they left when Cael did, it will come back or changes will be made, and Chizek's leaving gave us CPR didn't it. Quit being a Debbie Downer

Chizik, McDermott, Sanderson, Jackson.

Revisionist history. Chizik was a slam dunk hire at the time according to anyone with a pulse, just wasn't a good fit. I guess you could argue JP should have known that, but most thought that hire was a major coup. McDermott was praised by many as a solid hire, safe bet. And it's not like he was only winning 10 games a year, he just didn't light the world on fire. Cael was a homerun and there was nothing we could do about him leaving. Nothing wrong with that hire at all. KJ appears to be a miss, I'll give you that one.

I don't hold him responsible for their lack of success. At the time, they were good hires. He may not have been perfect, but he's been pretty close. I think he's one of the best in the country.

With our 3 most visible leaders being the football coach, basketball coach and AD, its hard to imagine having 3 people that are as good at what they do and also of such good character. We're lucky to have these guys representing us. Exciting times..

I know. I was thinking exactly the same thing as I read the announcement yesterday about the Mediacom deal and then heard all the praise the local sportstalk guys were heaping on ISU for getting this done.

It is a great, great time to be a Cyclone.

(Anyone else thinking Gary Barta wishes like heck Pollard would leave the state? To Barta, he's probably like that smart kid in class that ruins the grading curve for everyone else. )
