Mark Farley Disses Iowa St.

Has Iowa been a more successful team in the past 10 years? I'm not asking if Iowa has beaten ISU in the past 10 years, I'm asking if they have been more successful. The answer is absolutely. They've been to a bowl almost every year including a handful of BCS/New Years Day bowls. I don't know their exact records, but I'm assuming they've finished with maybe only one losing season in that span? So I dont think there is anything wrong with calling them the best team in the state.

Calling them Iowa's "pro team". I think this breaks down into 2 parts: recruits and fans. Historically, more in state recruits choose Iowa than any other in state institution. Historically, the better or higher rated recruits have chosen Iowa over other in state institution. They have put more guys in the NFL than ISU. To me, this says: If I want to win, I go to Iowa. If I want the opportunity to play at the next level, I go to Iowa.

The second part would be the fans. I think its safe to say that Iowa has more fans than ISU. Notice I didnt say, Iowa has more fans that went to Iowa? "Tavern Hawks". More fans generally means more coverage across the state from the media. Because of this, I feel like more kids grow up hearing more about Iowa than they do ISU. I cant tell you how many times I've heard tavern Hawks say, "Well I'm an Iowa fan because thats the state we live in!" IMO, you would hear the same thing if you asked someone from Wisconsin why they like the Packers. "Well, they're from Wisconsin." So again, I dont find anything too wrong about that statement.

I really dont think he was taking away anything from ISU or trying to slam ISU or Rhoads. Its obvious that Rhoads has done great things in his first 4 years at ISU and is working to change the tide in the state of Iowa. Just my opinion.

Rather than delete all the pro Iowa crap you just spewed . . let me fix it for you here . . . Reasons for Iowa perceived success:

1 - PRIMARY reason for Iowa's post season activity HAS EVERYTHING to do with the conference they are IN. Not to mention the Big 10/11/1 has always had an IN with January bowl games.

2- Pro Hawk SUCK UP media in this state . . thanks to Zabel and Gus Schrader (CR Gazette) . . .which by the way continues today with this MURPH cat on KXNO who just affirmed a statement made by the Thinking Man's fan (former Hawkeye) . . . that ISU is decades away from catching up with Iowa football. Idiot Murph threw a bone to ISU fans by saying we had a better basketball program (but isn't that what hawkdom continues to say every year).

3- PBR and ISU football are ASCENDING and Iowa is DESCENDING even in their LOUSY conference.

4- Take the big time cheater FRY out of the equation and Iowa would be a perennial bottom dweller in the 10 like it is today. Raison face's rise coincided with massive incompetence from ISU (administration and football team).

More could be said but that is enough.

Hmm...I've never thought of Murphy as a Hawk shill, but I guess I didn't actually hear the show today either. I do wonder if we aren't further than some think (not decades, but maybe A decade) from being able to take over as the recognized premier team in the state, even if we are technically more successful over the next couple years. That's not Hawk homerism, that's just recognizing that we need an older generation of set-in-their-ways Hawk fans to die off or stop caring, and a new generation of kids to grow up in an environment where it's cool to be an ISU fan. That **** just takes time, even if you're the better team. Did thousands of Sooner fans convert to Cowboy fans overnight last year? Have Baylor and TCU siphoned off than many Texas and Aggie fans the last couple years?
 
Heres how I see it and I may come off as insensitive (its just to prove a point) Who cares what a coach of a lower division thinks. UNI winning a national championship is like getting a gold medal in the special olympics, guess what you are still... The best ISU can do is curb stomp them in every sport we play them in and the perception will go away. Until then they may have an argument in their minds. Its time to show a little ISU pride, we have the coaches in place, we have great fan support. Hilton and Jack Trice are becoming tough places to play again if you are a visitor. We are building state of the art facilities. We have a University president who is favorable to athletics and an athletic director who may be a genius. Things are looking up for ISU right now, we have had some tough times, lets enjoy this and again who cares what Mark Farley thinks.

Iowa hasn't been the better team since Fry retired 15 years ago. Know how I know? THE HEAD TO HEAD RECORD!!!! Make those statements 15 years ago and you are absolutely correct, if we're doing things that way France is also has the better military traditionally than the United States.

LETS ASSUME A RECRUIT TODAY, which is the basis of Farley's comments wants to go to the 'pro'(better) team.
-Assume a kid is old enough to start following football at the age of 4
-A SR in high school today was 4 in 1998 meaning ISU is 9-6 against Iowa since they started following football
-ISU won when they were 4,5,6,7,8,11,13,17,18

Guess what!!! The average high school senior football recruit isn't looking at 1983-1997 going damn look at that, Iowa is the team for me because they owned this series for the first 3 years I was alive and the 12 years before I was born. That is ancient history to a high school Senior.

It's time to quit acting like we aren't the biggest show in town because Iowa had a 15 year winning streak that ended when the freshman on the field were 3 years old. Iowa State is the better team, we are the better program. Iowa has had the benefit of a weaker conference without a championship game which has given them some better records and some better bowl games. They are not the better program (at least they haven't been for the bulk of the time a recruit was alive)

good research skills! (i think) yet just because ISU has won against Iowa more often recently, doesn't make them the better program or make a high schooler want to go there. plus we have few recruits in Iowa that matter that and out of state recruits don't follow that at all! Iowa has more bowl appearances, wins and top 25 rankings. (didn't research, just recalling from memory) I would call that "better."

The bold...and then the underline. The reality is, this isn't happening and its not just to ISU. UNI plays competitive against Iowa and Iowa State in football and has both schools number in basketball.

We also had pretty much sucked for 10 years in basketball. I think that era is just about over... same goes for football thanks to mccarney's last year and chizik's subsequent demolishing of the program.

Plus i think where we're really going to see gains from all this big 12 money is in our margins with other conferences. We may stay fairly the same as to our financial placement in the big 12, but with all this money now we start to have advantages (facilities, coaching salaries, etc) over conferences like the Big east and lower that we didn't before, leading to winning more recruiting battles when theyre involved. This gap is about to get wider.

This is a guy who, for all the success he's had at UNI, can't get a better job offer than UNI. The guy's opinion means nothing to me.

I agree. Just laying the groundwork for his shot at the job. Part 2 of the plan is beating iowa on Saturday and Part 3 is going deep into the 1aa playoffs.
