PREDICTIONS: Iowa State @ Iowa

I'm not so sure that Tulsa was better than NIU? Possibly? I think Tulsa's offense is better, but NIU has a pretty darn salty defense because they were really good last year and returned nearly everyone.

A salty defense that gave up 45 points to Kansas, 49 points to Wisconsin, 48 points to Central Michigan, 60 points to Toledo, and 38 points to Ball State. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't think salty defenses give up those kinds of point totals.

I think that ISU had a good game against a good opponent at home. Iowa had a squeaker win against a good (maybe not as good as Tulsa, but not the Little Sisters of the Poor either) opponent on the road. I think Iowa gained confindence that they can win close ones on the road even after mistakes.

Perversely, I feel better about this game being played in Kinnick than I would if we were playing at Jack Trice. I'm afraid of Iowa's new confidence, but I'm not 100% sure it translates from the road to home. I'm going to say ISU 38, Iowa 30. We're close at the half, go ahead in the 3rd, and weather the storm in the 4th.

If both teams play close to their potential, then ISU will win 42-23.

ISU will probably win 24-13.

The almost yearly occurance of wanting Frerentz fired will reappear from Hawk fans.

I agree that they aren't as good as Iowa made them look. They are, however, experienced. 10 returning starters including a LB that started in '10 and missed last year. Experience vs and inexperienced OL for Iowa. It was a decent test for them.

That being said, ISU will be even better and that worries me. At least it is at home.

I'd take ISU 23-20.

The Iowa Vs NIU was technically not a home game, but it sure looked like there were more Hawk fans there....

I was just going to look this up but thanks for doing the work!! I knew their defense was horrendous last year....I'm already hearing it from my hawk buddies on how tough the N Ill defense was.

Well they won 9 straight games with an offense that put up a TON of points. Sometimes that doesn't help your defense any.

Opportunity Knocks:

This isn't your older brother's Hawkeye Team and, this isn't your Dad's Cyclone team. Rhoads says this is his best team yet. This is far from KF's best team. Momentum is with Iowa State - increasing attendance, increasing excitement and improved play on the field. Time to take another step forward - beating Iowa gives this a team a chance to win 7-8 games this year. Second best season in Modern Cyclone Football history. Losing it isn't the end of the world - but the better team will win and from what I have seen - I think its the Cyclones.

ISU-28
Iowa-14

Should win by 2 TDs. Iowa will have trouble stopping the running game. If NIU had a passing game they would have beat Iowa yesterday. ISU has that. I'm not sure why people continue to kiss Iowa's *** even though they are awful this year and will have trouble winning 5 games.

That's kind of what I am thinking. If you look at the stats Iowa and ISU had similar yardage, though they were a little more pass focused and we were a little more run focused. But I think Tulsa is a better team than Northern Illinois. My biggest concern is that Iowa is going to have a lot of reason to hunker down this week and get better, while our guys will be riding high on the win. I think that this game will come down to line play. If our O-line can improve this week and keep pressure off of Steele while opening up holes for the running backs I have faith in our defense taking care of business on their end.

I'm with you guys. I think IF we win it's by using quality depth and wearing them down by the 4th quarter. Heavy doses of Shontrelle, White and Woody will be needed.

If we based it off of yesterday: I say ISU 31, Iowa 14

If we based it off of talent level: I say ISU 24, Iowa 20

If we base it off of historical knowledge: I say Iowa 24, ISU 14

Edwin Arceo drills a 60 yarder as time expires as the Cyclones win 73-0

Rhoads then puts up two middle fingers in Ferentz's general direction.

I believe folks are overlooking things. There is a reason KF made staff changes this year. Changing both coordinaters is drastic to say the least, and I believe he knew this was going to be a very difficult year in IC. If Iowa had a difficult schedule this year, their win total would be low. Iowa is 1-6 ATS versus ISU at Kinnick in the last 7 games there. If ISU is favored or an underdog by a few points, there is a chance for a big ISU win. I believe we will see a 27-17 ISU win this year.

Iowa will be improve next week. If we win it will be close. However, if we don't win, I'll be legitimately disappointed in an IC road loss for the first time in a while. We have the talent and experience to win. If we get this next one, we have a great chance at a 4-0 record going into Ft. Worth in what could be a very, very interesting game.

Why would they be riding high? This wasn't the OSU win--they know the difference.

I spoke to a Hawk alum and fan who believes we will win in IC and it won't be close. He says IU is just not good this year. It will take a year or two to get the recruits that fit the new system, particularly on offense. We are fortunate to be able to hire a new OC from our staff so things did not change much. I feel like we win big and send a message. 34-14.

Iowa 38-ISU 31. One game doesn't make a season. It's at Iowa and it's a rivalry game.
