Jantz named the starter

This is crazy. We can't pick and choose certain games to help a debate. Jantz played great against Iowa and Jared played great against Okie State. No reason to tear down one kid to help your argument of another. Both are Cyclones, both are good kids, and are going to be key to us winning games this year in some way shape or form.

Agreed. I wasn't trying to tear down Barnett with my post, just trying to see how big of a part the Okie St game played in some peoples minds as to who should start this year. And I was not really hoping for one over the other. They both played great at times last year, and they both had their bad moments. Bottom line is, we're not in practices and we haven't sat down and looked at game film the way the coaches have. And even if we did, I doubt we'd have the wisdom to be able to make the right call.

Everyone keeps pointing out the UNI game (which ISU won BTW). I wasn't there, but listened to the radio. My main memory was how P.O.'ed Bruns was of the crappy blocking the O-line did. Basically, he thought that most of the game SJ was running for his life.

Yeah that game Jantz had to make some unbelievable plays to put us in the game. Some he brought on himself and some were on the rest of the team.

The Iowa Game He played much better. Still made some mistakes but overall it was probably the best single game performance I have seen an ISU QB play.

The Uconn game he played just awful the first half. Some say not all of those INT's were his fault but it was his decision to throw it. Even though he played terribly the first half and got injured he showed some grit and moxy to shake off the terrible plays and lead the team to victory on a sprained foot.

The Mizzou game was just a complete Team breakdown. The defense was a sieve and the offense couldn't get out of their own way.

The Baylor game Jantz made some bad decisions and had a couple key fumbles. Overall the offense had some chances to put ISU in the game but the defense really couldn't stop their run game. And the offense lacked the firepower to keep up.

The A&M game was pretty much the same as Baylor.

The Pinstripe Bowl. The offense was stagnant. He had some opportunities but as it happened all season the offense couldn't make plays when it needed too.

I know this may be a bad assessment, did anyone else think that jantz looked better than barnett throughout the spring game? It may have been just been a spring game but it had to atleast say something towards today's news

Jantz just has more potential. Barnett always came off as the safe move but even he turned the ball over more than what was exceptable.

I don't really think CPR wanted JB to come in last year. We looked awful against UT, MU, and aTm before he had to pull the trigger. I think Jantz was CPR's guy and Barnett was Herman's guy. Especially evident in the bowl game with Herman leaving and JB was pulled....what a great opportunity to get "your' guy back in and re-open this "competition". All of the pre-bowl talk was about SJ being 100% for the bowl and how well he practiced. He comes in and plays like crap. However today, we find out he wasn't 100%. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he doesn't like JB. However, I think SJ will have a very long leash this season so RustShack, don't sweat it.

This is horse manure.

Right on brotha man!

To be quite honest this probably isn't too far off from the truth. I love Rhoads like everyone else, but coaches do have their favorites. I'm a big Jantz fan as well.

STILL I think Jantz is the best QB for this team right now and the best QB we have right now on this team THIS year.

The hypocrisy of people who are wary of Jantz in this thread is ridiculous.

Overall, the stupidity in this thread is astonishing, but not surprising.

Glad to see Jantz is the starter. He is going to do very well this year I think, much improved from last year. 11 days.

Those bemoaning this decision remind me of those against the hiring of the Mayor. This is the riskier choice, but has a lot more upside. Hopefully SJ becomes everything we hoped he would be last year. JB will likely get in due to injury at some point and still has two years to compete for playing time.

Not due to injury but I am planning on JB and SR getting plenty of lead protecting and mop up minutes. ( too much Sunshine in my eyes?)
I was happy to read in Chris's column that CPR told SJ that he does NOT have a hook ready for the Tulsa game but rather he has his job from game to game just like Farniok and everyone else.

The butthurt is strong with this one.

just watched the presser

seems like CPR really likes SJ... hope it works out. typical words about JB

also... testin the sig baby

Let's throw this out there. If we had not won the Okie St game, how would you vote? From the sound of it, that win is the reason some of you are saying he should be the starter. Barnett was only a piece of that win. Benton, Woody, White, and Johnson are some names that come to mind that played a significant role. If they had not contributed the way they did, and Barnett played the game the way he did, I'm guessing we don't leave with a win. Don't get me wrong, JB had some huge numbers, but he also did some things that could have easily been the reason we could have lost had it not been for the play of the names mentioned above.

IMO Klein was the star of the OSU game.

I was one who was hoping that JB would get the nod...not because he's tons better, but because Jantz's ridiculous turnovers scare the crap out of me. But, I really believe that the starter this year isn't going to make a huge difference in picking one vs the other. I think that our offense is going to look more like KSU's with less dependence on the pass and more focus on the run game and running the QB. On top of that, we haven't gone through a season in at least 4 years without the starting QB missing at least a few games, so I'm sure that JB will get his shot.

Hates SJ's turnovers, forgets JB's turnovers... Typical.

Ive got it from an inside source (no really, believe what you want) that SJ has looked and looks like a heisman in practice, last year obviously didnt translate enough in the actual games. JB is the consistent workhorse, SJ is the rough around the edges diamond. If you've listened to enough CPR quotes we need playmakers to compete in the Big12. It seems SJ has more of that playmaking potential than JB and thats probably why he was tab the starter. With that said, having JB ready to go at a moments notice has me downright giddy. Cant wait!

I've also heard it tears it up in practice, but he has to be able to take that to a real game.

If this were true the decision would have been made earlier, our completion percentage would be better than 60% as a group, and the end zone would be bowled in by Tulsa kickoff. Not saying you didn't hear it from a legit source, but they may just be backing the guy who won the job so that fans aren't calling for him to get pulled after one bad play against Tulsa.

And I've heard from an inside source that Jantz looks a little better than Barnett, while neither of them really looked great.
