Here is my long post for a solution, I hope it doesn't get burried:
First let me preface by saying that the students that bought tickets and then haven't shown up to the games **** me off like no other. Let me remind you that tickets were sold out as early as June for students. I, my girlfriend, and another friend of mine, all would have bought tickets, but procrastinated as we all were unsure of whether or not we would use ALL of them. Then they sold out. I have no doubt in my mind that we would have gone to 90+% of the home games.
Second, students ******** about having to study and stuff. Seriously? Shut the **** up... I am a chemical engineer, it's ******* harder than about any major and I still find time to watch and go to about every bball game. It's not that I choose not to study if I have a test, it's that I plan my studying AROUND the basketball game. Don't act like you're burning your mind studying for stat 101 or business 101 classes. If your craming the night before the test, then you did a poor job planning it.
Now for the solutions:
1. Sell tickets individually by game:
A simple concept. One goes to the game, swipes their student card, and the ticket price, averaged out over every game is added to their U-bill. Simple. Students like me that are pretty die hard, yet just procrastinated too long on tickets, now still have the opportunity to go to every game. The dbags that bought SEASON tickets to only go to one or two games, can still go to those one or two games. This is my preffered solution. One which I think is very feasible and not too difficiult to complete.
2. Sell tickets based on turnout:
If a student doesn't turnout for more than 50% of the games, put their ticket on hold. If turnout eventually gets better, up it to 75%. Freshman tickets are immediately put on hold. Another simple solution, yet more difficult to accomplish.
It's a long post, but these are two very feasible solutions. As a student who has spent more money buying individual tickets in the upperdecks, due to the season ticket "sellout" this is a very pressing issue. One that really infuriates me.
