Big 12 considering adding ACC teams..to 16

It would be nice to add Louisville, Notre Dame, Boston College, Pitt, Florida State and Clemson.
Have 4 Pods and 2 divisions that play all teams in the pod, 2 protected rivalries outside pod, and and 1 game from each other pod. At the end of the season, the top team in the north and south division play in the CCG. Maybe something like this:

NORTH
Pod1:
ISU
KSU
KU
UL
Pod2:
WVU
BC
Pitt
ND

SOUTH
Pod3:
OU
OSU
UT
TTech
Pod4:
FSU
Clem
TCU
BU

I know some of this doesn't quite pass the smell test but I could work with something like this. Would be cool to mix up the schedule every year or every other year.

Yes and then we can have a 4 team playoff and the winner we'll just crown the National Champion. Worked for the SEC.

Wow, creative thinking. I like it.

Just seems like more super conference chatter. I could see adding 2 more to get to 12, but I'll pass on anymore. 16 team leagues will kill college football. That said, I'll take Clemson and FSU and put them in the new B12 South!

This. The college football waters looked fairly calm and the twitterverse was getting restless and decided to stir it up. After that lackluster, who cares BCS Championship game, they figure they have to get things rolling again early.

IMO, if this is where things are really going to end up, then I'd rather the Big XII get their *** in gear this time and be the aggressor, as opposed to sitting around waiting for the **** to hit the fan. If we can get ND, then I'm for whatever it takes, as long as ISU is still involved. That would put a huge dent in the B1G's market in Chicago. There are a lot of TV sets here. Notre Dame is a big commodity in College football. People here who aren't willing to watch them hoping for them to win, usually are watching them hoping to lose, either way it means money.

Sounds like fun.

I read this myself earlier today and decided a little fan fiction is alright in the middle of winter.

No sources. Doesn't even reference any anonymous ones.

But its from Honas ("The Dude") Sneed. I can't think of anyone more credible than that.

Sources are reporting that football schools in the ACC have contacted the Big 12 about possible affiliation, and the Big 12 is interested.
Here are possible additions to get to 16.

Option 1: Notre Dame (would come along with rivals included), Pitt, BC, Maryland, Clemson, Florida State

Option 2: Pitt, BC, Maryland, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech

TV will drive this, and with bidding coming soon, this is a package the networks would drool over. This would put the Big 12 in a position to compete as the elite conference with the SEC.

Here is the link:
Big 12 to Target ACC | January

That info is BS on several accounts.

The odds of ND joining the ACC along with another school are far greater than ND and 5 existing ACC schools joining the B12. ND's non-FB sports have far more synergy with ACC schools than with B12 schools. The only advantage of ND joining the B12 is for access to TX recruiting turf.

It's also funny that the ACC would be tiring of UNC's influence on ACC matters when UT has the reputation (some of it deserved) as being a bigtime B12 bully.

I also find it funny that Maryland is considered a FB school in the article.

Also, the article suggests that the so=called FB schools are ****** that Pitt is joining the ACC but then Pitt is considered for B12 expansion as a "FB school". If anybody watched the sea of empty seats at Heinz Field for Pitt FB games over the past several years, I don't see why anyone would consider Pitt a FB school.

I think that Mountaineer source has been drinking too much moonshine.

I don't think ND to ACC makes sense at all.

Why would they be an exact conference equal with NC State when they could have a Texas type setup or share a bigger pie with less pieces in the Big Ten. It contradicts everything we know about their ego.

It's the fourth most logical place for their football behind Ind, Big Ten and Big 12.

Doubt this I do not like it, but whatever it is all about the money. I guess if this happens the south end zone will be a lot sooner than later.

If any ACC schools end up in the Big 12, North Carolina is in the SEC at the same point.

Very curious why you think that because I like your take on lots of the conference stuff. Do they not like having two conference mates within 50 miles?

It's hard to imagine them competing in football when they have every chance to do well in the ACC and never really can. It's easy to see why the SEC would want them, less clear why they'd want out of their traditional hoops rivalries and into a tougher football league.

From what I've read it seems like Slive wants UNC BAD!! Not sure how receptive UNC is but Slive is hungry for a piece of the UNC pie. New state for the conference with a huge MBB following. IMO it would help push the league toward improving MBB competition (push all to improve) and visibility in the SEC by giving Kentucky someone in-conference to compete with. Yes, football is king but MBB is still a huge draw especially come March. Improved marketing of the SEC "brand".

I realize this is probably unpopular but itd be awesome to see isu, ku, ksu, and ou all in the same division together being the last 4 remaining big 6 schools but i know it wouldnt happen cus theyre gonna stick with texas and probably osu

I can see why ACC teams would want to be in the Big 12, but I'm not sure I like going to 16 at all. I have felt all along that 16 is too big, and too unwieldly.

It does make a lot more sense that the Big 12 would prey on the ACC than vice versa. This is all about football, and frankly its not even close between the two leagues in terms of on-field quality, fan support, facilities, etc.
In football, we would compete fine. Our bball would have to improve but so would recruiting for this conference. I like it. Then we do not have to totally depend on UT and OU for subsistence.:yes::yes::yes::yes::yes:

I would not discount the report as crazy. The Big 12 will be proactive with adding teams, and BYU will be desperate to get in the mix. They will end up MWC, and that's not up to their standards. The Big 12 could end up in the drivers seat in all of this. Rising from the ashes....

This.

16 team conferences defeat the purpose of a conference. Especially for FB.

Yea, I'm not exactly relishing the idea of playing in the "Big 12 East" and having 90% of our road games played on the east coast. Figures that about the time we finally start building some real rivalries between ALL members of the conference an idea like this would come along and **** all over that idea.

I much prefer 12... and thinking about it i think i'd almost rather stay at 10 than go to 16.
