Big 12 considering adding ACC teams..to 16

Whats next if this happens

SEC and Big 10 will be after UNC.

Ga Tech & Syracuse could fit in Big 10, Va Tech maybe fits in SEC.

This would blow Academics out of the Water.

Or the ACC could reinforce with the Big East, Loisville, Rutgers, UConn, and South Florida.

This would blow up everything, I think it is too big to happen. These things usually go in smaller waves. I think ND may be getting scared of what they are being left with. I can see them driving some of this talk.

ISU would become more of a doormat than we already are, but at least we would be included.

If we just took FSU\Clemson:

ACC is at 12
B10 is at 12
SEC is at 14.
PAC is at 12
B12 is at 12.

SEC may see that 14 is an odd number for a conference and go to 16. Probably by taking 2 from the ACC. Then the ACC refills with a couple more BE members (Rutgers\UConn)
 
Add Notre Dame, Pitt, Rutgers and Louisville....and stop at 14. That's a nice group of teams athletically and academically, and avoids that East Coast/Southern thing that wouldn't fit with our Midwestern football culture. IT....COULD...WWWOOOORRKKKK!!!!
 
Won't happen.... If those schools were unhappy with expansion then why did they vote in favor of it. Common sense is hard to comprehend.
 
Just seems like more super conference chatter. I could see adding 2 more to get to 12, but I'll pass on anymore. 16 team leagues will kill college football. That said, I'll take Clemson and FSU and put them in the new B12 South!

I State could compete just fine with the eastern schools, but remember, TV will drive this boat and we will be on it.
 
I would prefer 12, perhaps 14 at most. That being said, it's nice to see rumors that the Big 12 is the aggressor this time around instead of the one being picked apart.
 
I think this is all about ND, they want the best of all worlds (Title Chances, Recruiting, Competition, Rivalries, Travel):

Pac 12 - Too much travel, only rival there is USC.

ACC - Football level of competition not great.

Big 10: They could have their rivalries in the Big 10, but they see the southern sprawl, and are worried about the future of a league based mostly in the Midwest. Recruiting based in dying/stagnant midwest population centers.

SEC: They would get eaten alive being the Northern-Most School in the SEC (This is Why I think Mizzou will have problems in the SEC). No Rivalries. Recruiting great, not a cultural fit for ND.

Big 12: Basically, I think ND wants Texas recruiting. But there are no rivalries for them in the Big 12, so they need something on that front (ie. Pitt, BC). That's why I could see them pushing this. They want to bring some of their culture in. The competition is 2nd only to SEC. They would basically only have to compete against Texas & OU for league titles (If they ever get good enough again).

That being said, I could see ND and Texas starting their own league in 5 years. PR may be a nightmare though if they try to do that.

Someone needs to show you where Rutgers is on a map, son; you don't get much more "East Coast" than Jersey.

This. If the Big 12 added ND and Pitt I would be ok but I would kinda like to see Louisville and Cinci added as well to give even more geography in that part to help build/maintain rivalries for those schools. I think a 14 school conference is manageable, but 16 is too much and teams will never see each other.

It does make a lot more sense that the Big 12 would prey on the ACC than vice versa. This is all about football, and frankly its not even close between the two leagues in terms of on-field quality, fan support, facilities, etc.

Population and TV markets drive this. And that is where the ACC reigns supreme over all but the Big 1G

Doesn't matter if you have TV's if no one cares. ESPN/ABC/NBC/Fox are already in every market in the country. They don't need any more TV sets. They need matchups. I can't think of one ACC game I watched this year.

The big networks will pony up the money if the matchups are there.

This is true. The only way you make money just on population is if you have your own network like the big 10 does and you can get a per-subscriber fee regardless of who is actually watching it.

For every other network its all about how many people actually watch the games.
 
It would be nice to add Louisville, Notre Dame, Boston College, Pitt, Florida State and Clemson.
Have 4 Pods and 2 divisions that play all teams in the pod, 2 protected rivalries outside pod, and and 1 game from each other pod. At the end of the season, the top team in the north and south division play in the CCG. Maybe something like this:

NORTH
Pod1:
ISU
KSU
KU
UL
Pod2:
WVU
BC
Pitt
ND

SOUTH
Pod3:
OU
OSU
UT
TTech
Pod4:
FSU
Clem
TCU
BU

I know some of this doesn't quite pass the smell test but I could work with something like this. Would be cool to mix up the schedule every year or every other year.
