So, let's hear some facts from people who know about his competencies as a DB coach . . . especially before we launch another round of criticism based solely on his head coaching record.

Mob first ask questions later.

He could be a hell of a HS coach for all I care, but the thought of hiring a HS coach to be the Defensive backs coach in the pass happy Big 12 is .....well it appears insane[/Q

Particularly when he does not seem to be a fit for one of our recruiting areas either (ie. California, Texas or Florida). Unless we are hiring Jerry Rice as our WR coach, the last two coaching hire decisions just don't seem to jive with the we have got more money to spend on assistants announcement.

I care about "competencies" and I want to hear from people who can assess his competencies as a DB coach. There is really no reason to discuss anything else.

If true, .......WTF?

Seconded. I have no idea what this is all about. I hope it works, but I have a real hard time thinking our best option is a guy who has one 22 times in ten years at the high school level. I have no reason not to trust CPR but this is weird to me.

One thing you have to admire about CPR-It's painfully obvious that he doesn't give a **** how a hire looks to the public.

I would say our DB coach also needs to know how to recruit and have the connections to assist in that area, don't you?

And why should he? He knows what he wants to do and can spot the people he needs to hire to make it happen.

I don't care what the guys HS coaching record is because it has nothing to do with coaching ISU Db's. They are two completely different jobs that require 2 different skill sets.

How are we supposed to judge something he has no experience at? Has thrown a slew of DBs into college?

He was a decent DB at UNI from what I am told.

While playing for him in HS he really knows about about the seondary. Knows too much for HS kids thats if for sure. He had everyone trying to run schemes that were far to complex for HS football.

He is a nice guy who means well. This is his once in a lifetime shot you can bet the guy will be putting in 110% every day. He coached every day of the season in HS while recently undergoing hip sergury crutches and all.

Maybe the WR coach will have connections to Texas.

Under CPR, ISU has surprisingly hasn't gotten as many Texas players as previous classes have. It seems like a lot of Texas players are hit and miss compared to the Iowa and Florida recruits.

A high school coach worthy of being a Big 12 coach doesn't go two years without winning. I could see maybe being .500, but not winning any games tells me you are not a good coach. That said, something is weird here because he's been there 10 years, had very little success and still has a job.
I will respect your opinion but this has no basis in fact -- none!

We have a GA spot open. Nick Caley left this week to be the DB coach as Eastern Illinois.

Aha, good point.

It certainly does when you have to replace recruiting ties to both Texas and California in two hires. I know CPR said the spot vacated by Herman was not a recruiting position but I don't buy that we don't need to replace some of his ties.

People want to pooh pooh these last two coaching losses and just say "Well, CPR will fix it." This hire does nothing for recruiting in Texas or Cali. That's the main issue. We got a bunch for money for assistants and we are hiring a guy out of HS in Iowa.
