Cyclone Alley is an additional $30 fee on top of the ticket that forces students to do dumb stuff.

Okay. Now I see your point. The student section is Cyclone Alley but you're just saying get rid of Cyclone Alley and keep the student section. That's what threw me off. I'm not old. I'm a student who didn't understand your point but I got ya now.

Exactly. Students -- you don't need to be "led" by anybody. You're creative and independent individuals. You don't need it!

we know.. we're saying get rid of CAC and let the students be students, and have fun... not organized cheering.

What "leading" and "organized cheers" are we talking about? The only thing CA does is the signs for the arm waving thing during freethrows and their "promotions". Otherwise it's basically the football student section, with matching shirts and less drunk people.

This is the main problem.

Well you can't get in if you don't have a shirt. I'm pretty sure they frown upon the use of signs. There are other things students aren't allowed to do just can't think of them.

The thing that really annoys me is those damn free throw signs... who's bright idea was it to put the pointy arrow on the bottom of it? NO ONE can see it! all we can see is the dumb walking cy logo

I know it's just cheering and being loud, and it isn't hard to do, but after being there for the transition from the non-CA student section to a completely CA parquet level, I just think it's better for the section to grow completely organically (i.e. Freshman learn how to behave from older friends they go to the game with, or from other older students at the game).

I mean, I'm sure the CAC people are great, but it's just easier for regular old students to get completely stupid and crazy than the members of some committee, who's behavior is probably monitored pretty carefully. And some people take their cues from the committee.

like at the football games... students get tobe students, wear whatever they want, and yell whatever they want..
CA, HAVE to wear the shirt to get in, no ifs ands or buts about it.

If they can't completely get rid of Cyclone Alley, make one side CA and the other just a regular student section. I would bet money that everyone would flock to the regular student section.

Do this, give it 3 years, and then see which side is louder.

I don't care if they keep it or get rid of it. It's still going to be the same regardless and students won't be loud enough for the experienced cyclone fans that never sat down back in the old days.

Back in my freshman year I was in CA and hated it. I felt uncomfortable in it because I would cheer and people would look at me funny. It was like the only noise anybody ever reluctantly wanted to make was the soothing "Ohhhh..." thing and anything else made them feel self conscience.

It all comes back to the fact that we've sucked for the last six years and have made the tournament once in the last decade. I can't remember for sure, but didn't the switch to all-CA coincide with our basketball program driving off a cliff? That is a far bigger reason for the decline in home court advantage than CA.

Hilton will probably never be like it was in the old days (the age of the average fan appears a good 20 years higher than it was back then). But if we had fielded a halfway competitive team under McDermott, the student section "issues" would have taken care of themselves, with or without CA.

I'm not defending CA because I'm a CAC member or huge CA lover or anything...I couldn't care less if CA existed or not. It'd be nice to not have to pay the extra $30, the shirts are unnecessary and probably hurt student attendance, and most of the stuff CA does and gives away is stupid and pointless. But I just feel like most of the hate it gets is completely irrational.

This is off topic but whoever thought it was a good idea to start the CYCLONE POWER chant when we were down 5 with 20 secs left is an idiot.

I would agree with this.

All you alumni complain a lot about how the student section used to be and how CA isnt as good, but CA is put together by the Alumni Association, so as students, even if we wanted to get rid of it there isnt a whole lot we could do other than a massive petition. You older Cyclone fans have a stronger pull then us students so if you feel it needs to go, you figure out a way to let the Alumni Association know it, otherwise, quit you ******** and just cheer for the Cyclones, and encourage others around you to as well.
