More Rhoads Speculation

It kills me that Gilbert rather than Ames gets the property tax benefits of having these high priced Ames employees living just outside our city.

You do understand these are state employees, not Ames employees. When you look at all the state money that flows into Ames due to isu employee wages, student tuition aid, federal money for the same and the vet dept., the property taxes for these are a trivial amount.

If isu wasn't there Ames would be a shell of what it is. You could eliminate half the town at minimum. Anybody who lives in Iowa and pays taxes has some of their money diverted to Ames, and people living there are crying about this?

Especially when it hits me in the checkbook. Seeing all that property tax money, along with all from Bloomington Heights, going to Gilbert does frustrate me, especially when they benefit so much from the resources of the City of Ames.

So you are against people living outside the city in which they work? Wow. Interesting take.

Actually, they do have an Ames address, which means the city does get their property tax dollars. Your main complaint seems to be that Gilbert SCHOOLS (not the city) get that split of tax money instead of Ames schools.

Your real complaint should be that, apparently, Ames schools don't stack up as well when compared to Gilbert. Never mind the fact that Rhoads, Pollard, Kevin Jackson, Tom Herman, Courtney Messingham, Jeff Rutter, Gene Chizik, Bob McFarland, etc all chose Gilbert schools over Ames schools. Consider that Fred Hoiberg, Ames alum who married an Ames alum and also has a mother that taught at Ames schools, chose Gilbert instead of Ames. That should tell you something.

I don't think Rhoads would leave but check out today's article from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

Iowa State's Rhoads might be No. 1 candidate

According to two people close to Rhoads, he is now open to at least listening to what Pitt has to say now and likely will talk with the administration about the position Graham vacated Wednesday.

I really that isn't accurate.

Maybe if Ames is worried about it they should work with a developer to start an higher end development.

The problem is that school district boundaries and city boundaries are not one in the same.

Many of these developments are in the city of Ames, but the Gilbert school district. Ames the city has expanded beyond Ames the school district.

I find this to be the more telling quote from the article. Everyone is "open" to listening if they want their current job to pay them more, or in Rhoads case, improve facilities:

The school reached out to Rhoads last year after Dave Wannstedt was fired, but Rhoads made it clear he was not ready to leave Iowa State. He is from Iowa and moved back there to be close to his family.

I understand your point, and I'd like to have some of those areas inside Ames city limits as well. But don't confuse established school district boundaries with city boundaries. Bloomington Heights is City of Ames. Those rather expensive houses north and east of Ames are unincorporated areas - all property tax to Story Co. Both are in Gilbert school district.

And oh yeah - hoping CPR stays!

If he left a few years from now for a powerhouse, I wouldn't harbor ill will.

If he leaves for freaking Pitt, a school that plays in a crap conference, in an NFL stadium in front of 25,000 fairweather fans, I will hate him more than I ever could have hated Chizik. I'll feel lied to, betrayed, and left out for dry. It would be the biggest nut shot this fanbase has ever taken.

That's why I can't see him doing it. Pitt is not a step up from ISU. If he leaves now, for this particular job, he's just another slick-talking weasel, and I want to believe (as I'm sure most of you do) that Paul Rhoads is of a higher moral caliber than that.

Rhoads has enough negotiating power that would be more powerful than a Pitt coaching offer, I think bringing in game film of the week before Thanksgiving would be a start. He has also been mentioned by national media for every job opening JP, has to be living under a rock if he doesn't see that.

I agree 100%.

For the bolded, everything that comes out of Rhoads' mouth confirms this but the coaching profession is known for saying a lot of untrue things (firmly entrenched, etc.). I just hope Rhoads is one of the few who is different.

I'd always listen, you'd be a fool not to.
Acting on it is another story.

I thought Albert Pujols was "different". Boy was I wrong there. Can't help but feel a little snake bit on this Pitt situation. I know now what I want for Christmas.......... a signed contract extension.

I think JP's job should be on the line here. The guy has been notorious for doing whatever to earn a buck, but if he lost Rhoads it would truly crush the football program.

Pitt is not a step up from ISU.

That is a blatant lie. Is it a monumental step up like a USC/Oklahoma/OSU/FLA/Texas? Absolutely not. Is it a better job? Absolutely.

If you asked college football fans across the country: "Which is a better football job? ISU or Pittsburgh" 10 out of 10 would say Pitt.

Pitt offers a much better recruiting base (especially now with the whole PSU debacle), a stable conference (where Pitt can be a conference title contender on a regular basis), a much stronger program tradition (they've won a national title) & a much larger base of donors. Those are all monumental advantages that Pitt has over ISU.

That said, I do agree that Rhoads wouldn't leave ISU for Pitt. I think it would take a blue chip job to get Rhoads away from ISU. Those "I'm so proud to be your coach" speeches would look awfully stupid if he were to leave for Pitt.

I agree rebecacy if he does talk to the Pitt administration I never want to hear All In out of him again.

You are obviously very afraid of Paul Rhoads at ISU, so at least you are right about something.
